What is Seekers?

Seekers is the name for a friendly group of people who stay for one week each year at an amazing, unique, campsite in Farnham (Surrey, UK) called Woodlarks. Participants stay in an on-site tent or bring one of their own. Alternatively, hostel-style dorm rooms are available for those who desire a more ‘glamping’ style experience!

Seekers at Woodlarks is made possible by a small team of dedicated volunteers. It is specifically run for people with sight loss, and their guide dogs who are very welcome. Sighted volunteers help to run the event and we welcome new volunteers: please get in touch using the webform below if you are interested. Seekers is an entirely voluntary and self-funded holiday break.

“All the volunteers at Woodlarks were fantastic and made the week.
The food was great and all the campers were great company.
Had a great week in the countryside and look forward to next year’s camp.”

Heated outdoor swimming pool
The heated outdoor swimming pool is very popular.

What sort of things do you do during the week?

Past activities have included tactile workshops and demonstrations, live music, tandem rides, daytrips to various attractions, woodland walks, pub and cafe visits… and much more besides. The campsite features a fantastic outdoor swimming pool set in woodland: this is a very popular feature and we try to use the pool as much as possible.

There is a very strong social aspect to Woodlarks: life at the campsite is a true community experience and this is particularly characterised by eating – and washing up – together. Meals are prepared on site by our fantastic cooks; all meals are included in the fee. Tea and coffee is available to make throughout the day.

We are taken on a guided tactile tour of Watts Gallery
Group visit to the Watts Gallery where we had a tactile tour and workshop.

The Farnham heathlands surround the site and we go for many walks in this area. It’s such a dramatic landscape that it has been used as a filming location for many movies and TV series, including the epic movie Gladiator.

“I had such a fantastic time at Woodlarks this year. There are so many good things about the campsite. For me, I very much liked the opportunity to make new friends and to take part in fun activities planned for the week. So, never a dull moment.

Many thanks to the volunteers and helpers for your support and encouragement.
I look forward to coming back next year.”

I’m interested in volunteering

We welcome enquiries from new volunteers to help make the camp a success. Volunteers help with duties including cooking, cleaning, general site duties and, of course, acting as sighted guides. Even if you have never volunteered with something like Seekers before, get in touch and find out how you may be able to help. Please note that enhanced DBS checks are required and we can arrange this, at a discounted rate, through the campsite.
