Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 7 field hockey tripped up by Lindenwood (Mo.), 2-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey program wrapped up its two-game slate in the Bluegrass State with a 2-1 loss to the Lions from Lindenwood (Mo.) University on Sunday.

Box Score

Saint Anselm, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II entering the contest, falls to 0-2 on the young season. Lindenwood rebounded from Saturday's 3-2 loss in penalty strokes to Bloomsburg with a win on Sunday, evening its record at 1-1.

The Hawks held the decisive advantages in shots taken (16-5) and penalty corners (15-6) but Lindenwood built a 2-0 lead through the game's first 47 minutes with goals from Jessie Londono and Caro Theunisz. Londono also added an assist on Theunisz's goal, stunning the Hawks shortly into the second half of action.

Freshman Sarah Bagley (North Andover, Mass.) halved the Lions lead at 52:38, scoring off of a pass from junior Mary Nee (Canton, Mass.) to record her first collegiate goal. That would be the end of the scoring for Saint Anselm, who had nine of the game's 10 penalty corners in the final 35 minutes of play alone.

Hawks netminder Julia Hand (Reading, Mass.) allowed two goals on four shots while Lindenwood's Skylaw Starbeck turned away six goals on seven Saint Anselm shots on goal.

The Hawks will look to snap a four-game losing streak dating back to last season on Wednesday, Sept. 12, taking on Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Stadium.
