End of Season Newsletter – May 2024

To all our wonderful members,

Well, we’ve done it again. A much more straightforward sort of season but I offer a huge pat on the back to all for your support in ensuring the success of yet another season. We now have 270 members, an increase of 70 from last season. This is a testament to all the hard work put in by our entirely voluntary team and to the efforts of those members who have encouraged others to join.

Hopefully, we will see everyone returning in September with renewed vigour to ensure we maintain our continued success. You can rest assured that due to our success there will be no increase in charges for the 2024/5 season.

League competitions have managed to reached a successful conclusion. Winners of the 2023/24 Leagues were as follows :-

Mon am Aussie Pairs- Tony Wragg, Julie Trace, Richard Harsley
Tue AM Triples –         Richard Harsley, Steve Arundale, Dennis Leng, Tony Wragg
Wed am Triples –        Terry Wray, Ray Wilcox, Gerry Cooper
Fri AM Pairs –              R Clifford, M Stockdale

Mon EVE Triples –       T Myers, D Myers, A Harmer
Wed EVE Triples –       Simon Allan, Gail Allan, Colin McDonald
Thu EVE Pairs –           J Harper, D Harper, D Raines

Congratulations to all: winners will receive an Oscar’s voucher for £10.

Particular mention must be made of the new teams – many struggled to start with but it has been pleasing to see significant improvements towards the end of the season. Keep it up – it gets easier (or so they say)!

I have already had confirmation from most teams that they will be re-joining the leagues in September. Please contact me as soon as possible to ensure you are also included. There are a few spare team slots. Any members not attached to a team wishing to bowl more often or  wishing to be included in a team please let me know. Please indicate when you wish to Bowl and I will allocate appropriately. The more teams that play, the better the atmosphere.

Hopefully, many of you will now be out in the very fresh air enjoying outdoor bowling at the various local clubs. A list of these is on the club notice board and website ryedalebowls.com, together with contact details. Anyone requiring further details should contact me. All the clubs welcome new members and supporting the clubs ensures continuation of the loyal support RIBC receives from them.

The winter social sessions have now finished and we now are reduced to social bowling on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.30am. Those who have been supporting the new Tuesday evening social bowling session have expressed a wish to carry on for a few more weeks so, if you would like to join in, the start time is 7.00pm. However, this session will move to Wednesdays from 22nd May onwards. Everyone is very welcome.

Ann Vardy has kindly volunteered to organise a bowling break at Potters Bowls from

Mon 10th March to Fri 14th March 2025.

The all-inclusive price for a twin room is £580 per person. Single supplements apply. The price includes:

Contact Ann on 07732 585263 or ann_vardy@hotmail.com for further information. (Those who have already been to Potters have thoroughly enjoyed it and seem very keen to return.)

Apologies if I have missed anyone.

Let me know if you can help anywhere, we are always looking for more volunteers particularly on the committee. If anyone has any suggestions as to how we could enhance the running of the club please pass them through a committee member.

We are currently looking at refurbishing the Kitchen and office area. If anyone has any used, good condition kitchen units available or is willing to assist please let us know. There has also been a suggestion that we update the approach and entrance to the club. Are there any design guru’s out there??

Sadly, we have recently lost two popular and valuable members:

Richard Howson who bowled on Monday Evenings, an all-round likeable member who was a very accomplished bowler both indoors and outdoors with Stillington BC. (I personally have great memories of close encounters.) Raffle proceeds from the last Whistlestop and donations from members will be donated to Leukaemia Research in Richard’s memory.
Colin Tindall who was a member of this club for many years and who achieved many notable levels of success both indoors and out.
Our thoughts go out to all their families and friends.

Hoping you all enjoy this spring and summer and we are looking forward to seeing you all in early September.

Best Wishes

Dave England (for RIBC committee)

Newsletter March 2024

Greetings to all our members.

We are nearing the end of the indoor bowls season with just two more weeks of league bowling to go.  All the league competitions finish in the week ending Friday 12th April with the exception of the Monday morning pairs and the Monday evening triples leagues which finish on Monday 15th of April.

Well done to all our league teams who ‘by hook or by crook’ have managed, with very few exceptions, to play all catchup games.

This Easter weekend we will play the usual Friday am pairs league games. The club will also be open on Friday from 12.30 until 2.30pm for a friendly roll up.  We will hold a social session on Sunday at 10.30 – which I expect will be fairly quiet due to Easter holiday. Monday morning Aussie pairs and Monday evening triples league games will be played as per scheduled. We will be open for Monday 2pm social. You are welcome to bring a friend or family to any of this weekend’s social sessions.

Social sessions on Mon and Tue at 2pm and Thu and Sun at 10.30am will continue as normal until Sunday 14th April. They have been less busy recently with no overcrowding so come along if you can.

There will be a whistle-stop meeting on Sunday 7th of April at 1.00pm so get your name on the list on the notice board if you want to be included.

During week commencing 15th April we will have the normal social sessions on Monday and Tuesday at 2.00pm and Thursday at 10.30am.

The summer schedule starts on Tue 23rd April with social sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.30am.

Help required: We are still looking for an Audio system expert to sort our entertainment system out. Anyone out there? We are also looking for someone with financial expertise to help advise the best way forward for the club.

Many thanks to all our members for our most successful indoor season for over 10 years. No doubt many of you will now be looking forward to returning to your local outdoor clubs for the 2024 summer season and we wish you all the best and hope you enjoy a fine successful summer. The outdoor clubs are our major source of members, without whom the club would struggle to survive. For those who have not yet joined a local outdoor club and wish to do so, there is a list of contacts on the club notice board and also on our website.

We sincerely hope that you will all be back in September, ready to enjoy your indoor bowling again and ensure the clubs continuing success.

That’s it for now, look forward to seeing you soon.

Dave England (for Ryedale IBC committee)
