Lady Devils rally, 14-9, over Arcadia

Between rain showers and even while on spring break, the varsity Lady Devils managed to squeeze in a varsity softball game.

Lancaster rallied to score five runs in the sixth inning to beat Arcadia, 14-9, on Tuesday, April 2, to improve to 2-4. Both of the Devils’ wins this season have come over the Firebirds.

“We’re a young team with only two seniors and not a lot of varsity experience,” said head coach Bruce Northern. In fact, one of Northern’s seniors is new to the team.

The varsity team includes eight juniors, no sophomores and two freshmen, including one that transitions between the junior varsity and varsity teams. The team also has another obstacle—only one pitcher.

Junior Braelyn Johnson has been carrying the load in the circle but will get some relief from junior Skye Smith.

“We’ve got three games this week and that’s a lot for Braelyn to pitch,” said Northern. “We’re going to get Skye in there some. The good news is next year I’ll have three pitchers coming up from JV.”

Johnson had five strikeouts in last week’s win….
