RIPON, Wisconsin – The Ripon men's tennis program dropped a close 6-3 decision to Martin Luther on Sunday afternoon inside the Willmore Center.
Martin Luther (1-2) started the match with a 1-0 lead due to Ripon's availability of singles players; as a result, the Red Hawks forfeited court six in singles play. However, Ripon (0-10) roared out of the gate in doubles as
Clayton Counts and
Caleb Sippel teamed up for an 8-1 win on court one.
The Knights took courts two and three and led 3-1 heading into singles.
Ripon fought back in singles as Sippel cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win on the top line. Soon after,
Ty Rondestvedt won 6-3, 6-4 on court two to tie the match at three.
Martin Luther took court four to pull in front for good and clinched the match with a three-set win on the third line. To close out the afternoon, the Knights took court six in straight sets.
