All year round cycling at Palmer Park (PP) velodrome

Reading is lucky enough to have its own velodrome at Palmer Park, providing a great opportunity for traffic free, safe, sociable and fun, training and racing.  The track has shallow banking which makes it ideal for track novices and it’s the perfect way to give bike racing a try. On Thursday evenings during the summer there are coached structured training sessions on fixed wheel track bikes. Anyone racing will need to have attended at least a short course of these to gain accreditation to race. Track riding is great for developing speed, technique and tactics and excellent training for other forms of racing or events you might be doing.

The club has a number of members that race regularly at Reading Track League on Monday evenings during the summer and the action is free to watch if you just want to pop down to see what it’s all about. There are also indoor velodromes at Newport, Calshot and Lee Valley where you might find a few club members racing at the winter track leagues.

Tuesday evenings at Palmer Park  track are ‘drop in’ unstructured training sessions for road bikes (or track bike with brakes) year-round, and also on Thursday evenings during the off season (October to March). You will usually find a few Reading CC members riding around and various groups to suit different abilities. Just turn up pay your £6 at reception, find a group at your pace and ride under the floodlights and away from any traffic.

If you fancy having a go on the boards at an indoor track, the club also run occasional coached track taster sessions for club members. These have been at Newport Velodrome for the last couple of years and are mixed ability, suitable for all.
