Results Sunday 5th of March

We had just a few teams playing last Sunday and secured a few great wins!

❤️ Men 2

Reading Aces Men 2 faced a difficult round of fixture over the weekend and played against two of the top-three teams in the league.

For the first match against Oxford Uni Men, the match ended 0-2 with Aces Men 2 suffering an unfortunate defeat. In the first set, the team was not able to play to the best of their ability and made multiple unforced errors. While the initial stage of the game was closely contested at 5-5, Oxford Uni came up with a round of good serves and extended their lead to 5-16. Men 2 then picked up their fighting spirit and fought back, however, to no avail, the game ended in the favour of Oxford Uni. In the second set, it was a much better performance from the team. It was a tightly contested tug of war between both teams with Men 2 achieving game point first at 24-21. However, the team couldn’t hold their nerve and made a crucial error before conceding the match.

1️⃣ 17-25 2️⃣ 24-26 MVP was Mantas for securing multiple points with his gigantic blocks.

Second match was against Maidenhead Magnet, the top team of the league. Men 2 did not let the first defeat affect their morale and went on to secure a vital 2-0 victory. The team performed well in the first set with good receives which allowed William to set the team up for multiple nicely orchestrated attacks from wing players (Simon and Geoff) and middle blockers (Max and Mantas). A round of ace serves from Leo towards the end secured the first set. The team continued the run of their form into the second set. Carmel as the libero strengthened the team’s defensive capability against Maidenhead’s powerful spikes. The set ended just with 2 points difference in the favour of our Men 2.

1️⃣ 25-16 2️⃣ 25-23, MVP of the match was Carmel.

Men 2 hopes to carry on with their form into the last round of fixtures on 19 March.

🖤 Juniors A

Our first juniors team had a difficult game against Newbury. Overall it was a good game – first set was too easy and then couldn’t lift their game in the second set and unfortunately lost their focus, letting Newbury get the momentum and winning the game.

1️⃣ 20-25 2️⃣ 25-17 3️⃣ 15-7, MVP Gabriel, number 37

Second game against Basingstoke was an easy and convincing win for our youngsters in straight sets.

1️⃣ 25-17 2️⃣ 25-7, MVP Elizabeth, number 38

Well done to all the teams and congratulations for great games and wins!

Match results from the 19th of February

❤️ BVA Ladies

A disappointing weekend for BVA ladies, after our good start to 2023. Meg returned as coach after her house move and we were joined by Diane and Carmel.

The first match was against Basingstoke ladies. They are a very good team and we lost convincingly the first time we met this season. Initially we started with some close points but seemed to be very quiet and nervous. Basingstoke pulled away to 10-4. We were not able to finish points and free balls were being put wide. They served and covered well but lack of communication on our side meant that they were able pull away to finish the set. Meg encouraged the team to call more, move more but Basingstoke came out strongly, with a good run of serves taking them to 10-1. Our quiet, wary play continued, and we lost the second set.
1️⃣ 25-6 2️⃣ 25-3 MVP was awarded to Natalie.

The second match was against Spikeopaths. Meg again encouraged the team to be more enthusiastic and we started the set in a much livelier way. The game was more even, we covered well and attacked much better than the first match, but the serve let us down at times. Spikeopaths pulled away with a few good points, but we continued to fight back and kept close until finally losing the set. We continued more enthusiastically in the second set and apart from a very good run of serves from Spikeopaths we matched them with better serving, good cover and more attacking hitting. Again, we fell behind in the middle of the set to a very good run of serves from the opposition, leaving us with a lot to do, but we fought back well, finally losing the set. However it was a better match than the first.

1️⃣ 16-25 2️⃣ 16-25 MVP went to Carmel.

🖤 Men 3

Reading Aces Men 3 – Newbury —> 0:2
1️⃣ 13-25 2️⃣ 10-25

Match results from the 12th of February

❤️ NVL

We promised and we delivered! What a game!! 😳

The NVL team played the first match of the triangular against Norwich Spikers Volleyball, taking them to a nail-bitting 5th set thanks to a strong display of courage and technique.

However, Spikers took advantage of a strong serve that gave them a significant lead right at the end and they won the match.

1⃣ 24:26
2️⃣ 25:13
3️⃣ 27:25
4️⃣ 23:25
5⃣ 6:15

In any case, we witnessed brilliant things from both teams: our NVL squad’s pass and hits were on point, but Norwich’s defense was unreal. Watch the full game here

Well done to everyone involved! Also, congrats to Denisa for her MVP! 🏅

Go Aces! ❤️🖤

The second game of the triangular that took place on Sunday had our NVL team facing Spelthorne Volleyball Club once again.

1⃣ 25:15
2️⃣ 24:26
3️⃣ 25:23
4️⃣ 25:14

We started with a different and strong line up, and witnessed a great display of passing, setting and hitting. It was an amazing team effort where all the basics were covered, and we won this match 3-1 💪. Watch full game here.

Congratulations to Meg for another well deserved MVP! 🏅

Go Aces! ❤️🖤

Match results weekend of the 5th of February

❤️ BVA Ladies

Another great weekend for BVA ladies – continuing our good start to 2023. Meg, their coach was moving house this week, but left instructions for the team! They were also joined by Lana and Carmel – thank you 😊.

The first match was against Oxford Uni ladies – a return meeting after taking them to 2 close sets in our last match. The first set was very close for the first half. Oxford pulled away by a few points. However we caught up, helped by a good run of serves from Lana. We then fought well, until finally Oxford won 25-22. In the second set we led early and continued in the lead for much of the set. Our hitting down the line from Wednesday training was starting to take effect! We had some excellent points with a good combination of good defence and attack. Oxford caught up a few points before we pulled away again, with another close finish, this time 25-22 to us. In the third set, Oxford started well and were 6-1 ahead and changed ends at 8-5 ahead. BVA Ladies then played very well, fighting back to 9-8. A good run of serves and attacking play took us to 14-9, before closing out 15-10. MVP was awarded to Carmel.

The second match was against South Bucks University, for the first time this season. They were a stronger team and were more of a challenge on both service reception and strong hits. We fell behind in the first part of the set, but then managed to find spaces for our service and attacks. However Bucks upped their game and we lost the first set 12-25. We had learned from the first set and played well at the start of the 2nd, with stronger serving and hitting and also good blocking  We pulled ahead to 15-6! The play then became more even, before Bucks pulled away again to win the second set 25-23. We will know more about them next time!! Katie was awarded MVP.

Well done to everyone who played, including those who played in a different position. It was a good fixture.

🖤 Men 1

Another great weekend for our Men’s A team with 2 straight wins against Spikeopaths Men’s 2 and Farnborough.

Against Spikeopaths 2:

Our Men’s team started strong against Spikeopaths Men’s 2 with great set of spiking, defence and blocking. The team missed few points with minor errors but it was great to see the team get back quickly rectifying those error in leading the matches against Spikeopaths 2.

The final scores against Spikeopaths were

1️⃣ 25-20 2️⃣ 25-13 MVP – Simon Collier

Against Farnborough Vipers:

Our Team continued their strong performance in their second match against Farnborough vipers. The first set started well in favour of Farnborough vipers but some strong serves and as the set progressed some amazing set by Jamie and kills by Simon, Matt, Chris and Ram helped the team stream lead the set and our Libero William’s contribution was commendable easing the combination of defence and attacks and winning the first set. The Second set continued with tough fight for every point from the start and our team continued their strategy similar to earlier matches and striked a clear win against Farnborough.

Second game also a straight 2-0 win vs Farnborough
1️⃣ 25-17 2️⃣ 25-23 MVP Ram

❤️ Men 3

A good performance by Men’s 3 against the top two teams in the league.

Wycombe – Aces Men 3 1️⃣ 25-9 2️⃣ 25-8
Oxford Uni – Aces Men 3 1️⃣ 25-15 2️⃣ 25-19
