Badminton clubs rally around for a good cause

CLUBS in the region are throwing their support behind the ‘Badminton 4 MacMillan’ Week.

Tavyside Badminton and Horrabridge Badminton Club will be hosting events to try and raise money for the UK’s largest cancer care and support charity.

Badminton England have teamed up with Macmillan Cancer Support to try and inspire people nationally to hit some shuttlecocks whilst raising vital funds for a good cause.

Tavyside and Horrabridge will be organising the following activities during the week of November 23-29.

Monday, November 23 7-10pm: Join Tavyside Badminton for a free session at the Tavistock Community Sports Centre. Donations to Macmillan and the Tavyside infamous ‘Smash Challenge’ will be on hand to have a go at and win prizes at 50p a go.

Wednesday, November 25 7-9pm: Fancy dress and badminton games at Horrabridge Badminton Club playing at Horrabridge Primary School. Night badminton, balloon badminton, etc. A fun evening, all welcome.

Saturday, November 28 9-10am: Junior players can have a go at the ‘Smash Challenge’ and win prizes at 50p a go.

Sunday, November 29 10am-Midday: Players at the NoStrings Badminton Session at Tavistock Community Sports Centre will have the opportunity to have a go at the ‘Smash Challenge’ and win prizes at 50p a go.

During the ‘Badminton 4 MacMillan’ week, players of all ages and abilities are encouraged to add pictures of themselves looking through the strings of a badminton racket to social media with the hash tag, #RaiseARacket in support of MacMillan.
