What is Phoenix Hockey Club (PHC)?

We are a community of hockey enthusiasts dedicated to the development of our sport here in the Glendale area. We’re providing an environment for all ages and skill levels to try the sport, gain instruction, and participate on teams in various levels of competition.

Why play Hockey?

Well, besides the fun, exercise and camraderie, hockey is the 3rd most popular sport in the world – on a level of the Olympics and World Cup. Needless to say, there is endless opportunity in our game. Phoenix Hockey Club arms players with valuable skills that translate to life beyond the pitch as well.

How do I get started?

Hit that Get Started button and let us know what you’re looking for. Our staff will work with you (or your child) to make sure you find the group best suited for your level of play. If you’re new to the sport, our FREE Beginner Clinics are the perfect way to meet people and see if you like it (don’t worry, you’ll love it!)

What about equipment?

Start out with some running shoes and some comfortable clothes. We’ve got sticks and equipment for you to try free of charge. When you’re interested in grabbing your own gear, we can help you select the right equipment for your game (stick, shoes, shin guards).

Field hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team’s shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface.

Who can come to PHC?

Everyone who wants to have fun and be healthy is welcome at Phoenix Hockey Club! We welcome ages 7 to adults, in all skill levels and regardless of age, sex, or athletic background. We provide equal opportunity for underprivileged kids or families in financial hardship as well.

How competitive is the Club?

Playing opportunities range from first timers to high level travel teams competing on a national scale…and everywhere in between. Both juniors and adults can learn the game, and work your way up at your own pace…or just have fun in our regular pickup games.

Our Hockey Programs

Our programs are available to everyone – regardless of age, sex, ethnicity or religion.

The primary goal of the programs is to develop young athletes into skilled and confident field hockey players. Training and coaching focuses on skill-building, technique, and strategy to help you improve your game and reach your full potential.

All programs are geared for both indoor and outdoor facilities based on the Phoenix temperatures.

Junior Recreational

Sant Jarnail Singh – Our Hockey Facility Namesake

Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was a prominent Sikh religious leader in India during the 20th century. Born in 1947, he became known for his activism in the Sikh community, advocating for Sikh rights and the preservation of Sikh heritage. He gained significant attention during the 1980s as he led a movement for Sikh autonomy, demanding recognition for Punjab’s distinct identity.

Bhindranwale’s stance intensified, leading to clashes with Indian authorities, culminating in the infamous Operation Blue Star in 1984, a military operation to remove him from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. His legacy remains a complex and contested aspect of Sikh history.
