About the Club
The Penylan Club is located in the heart of Cardiff just off the town centre in the suburb of Penylan, not far from the iconic Roath Park Lake. Since its formation in 1908 the Club has continually strived to be one of the most progressive and influential in the Country providing leisure and competition for all ages at all levels of ability in Bowls, Bridge and more recently, Petanque.
Membership
The Club has over 75 bowling members, both men and ladies sections, over 100 social members, 60 Petanque members and a thriving Bridge section with over 200 members who use the Club all year round.
Recent Awards & Achievements
Bowls: The Club was awarded the Atlantic Championships 2019 Host Venue
Bowls: Men’s 1st Team winning the Private Greens Division 1
Bowls: Men’s 2nd Team winning the Private Greens 2 Division 1
Bowls: Members include the National Team Manager and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist
Pentanque: Hosted the British Isles Championships
Bowls: 3 Members are current Welsh International Players
Facilities
The Club has a generously sized Clubhouse which is surrounded by the Community. It has a well stocked bar and provides catering for all occasions. The bowls green is now regarded as one of the best surfaces around and is always a popular draw with playing visitors. The Club has hosted wedding parties, birthday parties, anniversary parties as well as dinners and presentation events.
Marketing and exposure
Social media – eye catching and popular website with South Glamorgan County links and a very popular Twitter site. Last year, our website traffic alone hit over 32,000 views.
Local advertising – large clubhouse banner, leaflets, posters, events, tournament programme articles and adverts, clubhouse notice boards. External Banner advertising around the green.
Social & Services
The Club has an ever growing Bridge Club every day, each week throughout the year, a thriving bowls section for Men, Ladies and Juniors, a Petanque section which is used all year round. Over the past year the Club has held taster sessions for the following organizations – Skoda, Cardiff & IIS Interiors.
Charities & Community
We cater for people with disability and we work hand in hand with other local schools and businesses to promote opportunity and goodwill in the community through the club.
