The history of badminton
1800s
The origin of badminton traces itself to ancient Greece, China, and India. However, the game itself was derived from the sport "poona," a sport played by British officers in India during the 1860s. The name "badminton" was assigned to the sport on 1873, after the country estate of the dukes of Beaufort in Gloucestershire, England by the same name.

Styles of Badminton
Badminton is played both as a professional sport and as a recreational activity. The Badminton World Federation, otherwise known as BWF, originally formed in 1934 as the main authority of the sport under the name "International Badminton Federation." Badminton was introduced to the Olympic Games as a demonstration sport in 1972, eventually being made into a full-medal Olympic sport in 1992. There are two styles of play: singles and doubles. Singles consists of a smaller court and a single player on each side (two players on the court). Doubles expands the court and two players on each side (four players on the court).

Change
While badminton is an Olympic sport, many people do not know how to play it nor have any knowledge about it other than its existence. In order to raise awareness within Panther Creek High School, the Badminton Club was formed in 2021. With sessions nearly every Friday and some Saturdays, the Badminton Club encourages all students to participate (please make sure to fill out the safety forms first)!
