Yelverton was the First Rebel Woman to Advance in National Competition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis great Catherine Yelverton has been named to the SEC Women's Legends Class of 2020, the conference announced Monday.

The 2020 Class showcases former student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 14 SEC member institutions. On Monday's and Thursday's during the conference basketball season, one individual will be highlighted on the SEC's website and via social media.

The class will be honored at the 2020 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament, March 4‐8 in Greenville, South Carolina. Each legend will be honored during halftime of their teams first game of the tournament. All 14 individuals will also be honored as a group, as well as participate in an autograph session during the tournament. Complimentary posters of the Legends will be available at the session.

Yelverton – a native of Jackson, Mississippi – was a four-year letterwinner for the Ole Miss women's tennis team from 1978-81 and was the first Rebel woman to advance in national competition, winning in her first round before losing in the second to the eventual national runner-up. An all-region selection, Yelverton was ranked eighth nationally and was the top-ranked individual for the Southern 21-and-Under.

She ended with a career record of 105-28 (including an 83-23 mark at the first and second singles position), which at the time was the program record for wins that still ranks within the top-10 in program history.
