Results Round Up – Saturday 18th March 2023.

The 1st XI secured a deserved 2 – 1 win on a heavy pitch at Old Plymouthians FC earlier today.

The Ruts had Keeper Adam Seymour to thank for providing two fine assists. In the first half he delivered a long ball forward to Billy Liffen, who out hassled his marker, before decisively poking the Ruts into a 32nd minute lead.

OP’s levelled a few minutes later, when a headed goal was scored at the near post.

However, the Ruts kept on doggedly plugging away, and they secured their all-important winning goal in the 81st minute following another accurate long ball forward from Seymour, which lead to the lively Dan Wallis calmly slotting home the Ruts winner.

Whilst the whole team put in a real shift – it was young Billy Whitthread who deservedly secured the Ruts MOTM award for his fine performance.

The ‘A’ XI also managed a decent 2 – 1 victory at Motspur Park FC. The Ruts Goals came courtesy of Alex Hammond and Ross Trimmings.

MOTM was Howard ‘Howie’ Payne who stepped in from the Sunday XI to help the Saturday lads out. Thanks also to Kacper Janiak for doing the same. Great effort and support lads.

The ‘B’ XI Match was Postponed this morning owing to a waterlogged pitch at Warlingham.

Best Wishes to all of the Ruts Teams competing tomorrow.

The Ruts were left to rue a trio of close defeats this weekend, all of which involved penalties.

The 1st XI were very unfortunate to lose 3 – 2 at Home to AFC Ewell. The Ruts fell 2 goals behind in the second half before deservedly levelling thanks to a brace from MOTM Billy Liffen. However, a debatable last-minute Penalty cost the OR’s dearly as they ultimately lost 3 -2.

The ‘A’ Team also lost 3 – 2 as they bowed out of the League Cup to NPL ‘A’ FC Robert Quiqley and Alex Hammond scored the Ruts Goals. Alas, the Ruts missed the chance to level from the spot late on in this cup match.

The Sunday XI suffered a rare defeat, as they lost 2 – 0 at Poplar Road to SW Lions.  Despite this disappointing defeat, the lads remain top of the table after reaching the summit the previous weekend. SW went ahead from the Spot and then added a late second as the OR’s were chasing the game.
