Connor Bailey’s superb bowling figures of 5-21 were the standout performance of Chirk’s fine victory over Bridgnorth at Holyhead Road.

This was a fourth win in eight games for the North Wales side, who lie sixth in Division One of the Shropshire League.

New Chirk skipper James Carter lost the toss and Bridgnorth decided to bat.

The visitors were dismissed for just 116 in 38.2 overs, all four home bowlers keeping things tight.

Bailey was the best of the bunch, his 5-21 in seven overs including the important wicket of opener and top scorer Will Rodenhurst for 38, caught by Carter.

Andrew Swarbrick also bowled well, bagging 3-26 off 12.2, while there was a wicket apiece for stepping down skipper Luke Gardner and Nick Flack.

Chirk reached the winning post at 117-5 off just 19.5 overs.

Wynn Jones led the way with 35 not out, Flack next highest contributor with 20.

Chirk 1st XI are home again next week to Lilleshall 1st XI, while Chirk 2nd XI are set to visit Sentinel 3rd XI.
