DIVISION THREE

Denbigh 2nd XI (1) 105-10 Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (14) 109-2

Pontblyddyn seconds were crowned Division Three champions after Saturday’s convincing eight-wicket win at Ystrad Road.

It is a great achievement by a team which has played brilliantly all season, winning 20 of 21 matches and led from the front by skipper Richard Davies, who has accumulated 834 runs and helped introduce and develop some talented juniors at senior level.

These include Ioan Jones, who has notched 37 second team wickets, while Josh Hollinshead and Cayo Jones have both made half-centuries.

Pont seconds only missed out on promotion by two points last year, so have gone one better in 2022.

Saturday’s game saw Denbigh seconds win the toss and bat, only James Tilley (40) making any real impact as they were dismissed for 105.

Ioan Jones took 3-12 off nine, Osian Jones also 3-12 and Daz Wilcock 3-16 from nine for the visitors.

Captain Davies (61) and Nick Thomas (23) put on 86 for the first wicket, Pont getting to 109-2 off just 19.3 overs for a 14-1 points verdict.

Abergele 2nds (0) 59-10 Buckley 2nds (15) 170-6

Father and daughter Gary and Holly Mayers put on a partnership of 53 as Buckley seconds clinched third place with a big win at Abergele seconds.

Gary made 50 and Holly 12 as the visitors set a total of 170-6 off 40 overs, Joshua Murray adding 42 not out, Jon Whitnall 22 and skipper Mike Wooton 19.

For Gele, Ajesh Joseph picked up 2-18 and Gareth Edwards 2-26.

The home side were sent packing for just 59, Lee Taylor pocketing 4-5 off eight and Wooton 4-13, while Gary’s other daughter Abbey Mayers, who opens the bowling every week for the seconds, dismissed one of the openers in her 1-10 from six.

Gwersyllt Park 2nds (3) 123-10 Conwy 2nds (12) 170-6

Allan Senior made 67 and Andrew Wannop 56 not out as Conwy seconds posted a winning 170-6 at Gwersyllt, Graeme Bell 2-8 for the home side.

In reply, Jack Watkins hit 54 in the Park’s total of 123 all out, David Owen 5-27 and Dan Kay 2-27 for the visitors.

Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn (12) 202-7 Bethesda 2nds (3) 167-5

Tom Hall (75) and Matt Lloyd (46) were the chief contributors as Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn passed the 200-mark after being put into bat.

John Maloney nabbed 4-22 and Sopan Patil 2-43 for the away side, who were then limited to 167-5, Richard Boldero 46 and skipper Byron Jones 32 not out, Prasad Jadhav 4-38 for the winning hosts.

Pwllheli 2nds (3) Brymbo 2nds (3) 224-7

Brymbo’s title hopes ended on Sunday after their game at Pwllheli was abandoned after one innings due to the weather.

Joss Roberts (86) and skipper George Bourne (33) helped ensure the Steelmen chalked up 224-7 off 40 overs.

Despite not lifting the championship, Brymbo seconds are assured of promotion to Division Two.

Ruthin 2nds (2) 118-5 Connah’s Quay 2nds (13) 120-4

Opener Joe Threlfall’s 44 helped Ruthin seconds set 118-5 off 40 overs, but Quay seconds got home comfortably on 120-4 from 33.4, Cole Hooson 46 not out, Paul Threlfall 2-14 for the hosts.

DIVISION FOUR

Carmel and District 2nds (0) 52-10 Corwen (15) 55-1

Corwen sealed the Division Four title with a nine-wicket triumph at Pen-y-Gelli.

William Pooler took 4-11 and Gareth Rigden 4-14 as the hosts were skittled out for 52 and the visitors eased to 55-1 in 13.4, skipper Kevin Sharp 26 not out.

Hawarden Park 3rd XI (3) 131-7 Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (12) 133-6

Put into bat, Hawarden recorded a score of 131-7 off 40 overs, Harry Black 45 not out and skipper Peter Hinton 34.

Zarid Sharif poached 3-19 and Mike Lee 2-28 for the visitors, who achieved their target in 37 overs, ending on 133-6.

Sharif completed a fine match by hitting 58 not out, Osbourne Allen taking 3-12 and Robert Goodwin 3-15.
