Eagles Stop Knights, 3-0

KIRKLAND – Northwest recorded its second consecutive 3-0 sweep Saturday with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-14 win over Warner Pacific.

The Eagles posted 14 aces and 12 blocks and kept WPU to a -0.37 hitting percentage.

Keann White was a part of 10 blocks on the night, with Kylie Szczepanski getting in on seven and Abi Broussard five.

Hannah Lord led the attack with nine kills, and Courteney Carr (15) and Anna Saelens (12) reached double figures in assists.

Saelens and Broussard had four aces each, with Hannah Michaels adding three.

"Warner was a good test coming off last night's performance, and our goal was to maintain the same focus and energy two nights in a row," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "Overall, we were able to achieve that goal and took advantage of the learning opportunity. Once again, we were strong from the service line, which put pressure on the Warner offense and allowed us to score points on defense.  We now have a tough road trip coming up, so we will need to have the same focus and energy as we prepare this week."

The Eagles detonated a close game early in the first set with a 10-0 run in which Saelens had three aces and Broussard had a kill and two blocks.

NU closed out the set on a 4-0 run to make the final score its largest lead of the game.

Northwest had only an 8-6 lead in the second set before rattling off 11 consecutive points to grab a 19-6 advantage. White had two kills and three blocks in the scoring spree.

NU was down 7-6 before putting together a 7-1 run that included a kill and three aces by Broussard. The Eagles' largest lead of the set was the final 25-14 margin as NU closed on a 5-1 run.

Now 10-9 overall and 8-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles head to Oregon next weekend to play at Northwest Christian Friday and Corban Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
