Ladies get their season underway

Friday evening saw our Ladies travel over to Tipton to take on Hamstead Manor in their first game of the new season. With some new members now playing in the team, it was going to be a difficult test for the new pairings.

After the first four games it was all level at 2-2, so the result hinged on the two ‘split’ games.  Sadly, however, neither new combination could pick up their remaining game to see the evening out.  So a 4-2 loss in the end, but perhaps a sense of optimism for future games as the pairs get more used to playing together.

The season comes to a close

Friday saw our last match of the season, with the Ladies travelling away to Three Spires.  As they had already won the Ladies title, it was never going to be an easy night!  Three Spires weren’t taking it lightly either and unfortunately it resulted in another 6-0 loss.

So a difficult season for our Ladies – plenty of effort and endeavour, some close games in a good number of the matches, but sadly not much to show for it at the end of the season.

More close games for the Ladies

19 March saw the Ladies take on Hamstead Manor 2 at home.  As so often this season, some close games followed before the night was over, and once again the 6-0 loss didn’t really reflect all the hard work our Ladies put in.

Just over a week later, they travelled to Cannock with a welcome return being made by Stef.  The extra bit of strength showed, with the first four games being shared.  However once the pairs split up, we weren’t able to snatch either of the remaining two games to earn the draw, so a 4-2 loss was the final result.

Ladies still can’t find any luck

March began with the Ladies welcoming TP Riley-Norton on Monday night.  The first two rubbers were close – one needing a third game, and both games 21-19 in the other – but sadly both were losses.  How different the night might have been if a handful of points had gone the other way!  And despite their best efforts in the remaining games, their luck didn’t improve a great deal and so the match ended as a 5-1 loss.

Still no joy for the Ladies

The Ladies took on Walsall Wood on Monday night – always a tough proposition.  And although they continue to improve as a team, the opposition once again proved too strong.  Despite some close games, as in so many of their matches, that little bit of luck that might have seen them take one or two games to three avoided them and they were left with a 6-0 loss.  One of these days…

Matches coming thick and fast!

January came to a close with three more matches in quick succession.  Friday saw the Ladies playing Hamstead Manor over at Tipton.  Unfortunately despite the usual effort and endeavour, it ended with a familiar result – a 6-0 loss.

Never ones to be down-hearted, the Ladies tried again at home on Monday night.  This time the opponents were Cannock.  Once again some close games followed with several games going to a third rubber.  But sadly we were unable to pick up one of those deciders.  So again we were left with a 6-0 score that didn’t truly reflect the night.

Following hot on the heels of these matches, on Tuesday the Mixed team took on Reedswood 2.  Having picked up games in both losses to their first team, the hope was we’d be able to improve on those scores and perhaps push for a positive result.  With four or five of the nine games going to a decider, it was a tough night – but one which finally ended with a 6-3 victory!

Ladies and Mens 2 start 2012

After the Mens 1 played last week, this week was the chance for two more teams to play their first match of the New Year.

First up at home on Monday night was the Ladies team, who were up against an experienced Three Spires side.  Sadly their best efforts went unrewarded as the strength of the opposition proved too much, and so it ended as a 6-0 loss.

The following night saw the Mens 2 travelling to play away at Cannock, but unfortunately for the first time this season we weren’t able to get a full side out.  So with three games conceded before we even began, it was always going to be a difficult night.  So although our two pairs managed to share the six games played, the end result was 6-3 to Cannock.

That leaves the Mixed team as the only ones yet to play in 2012, but an away trip to TP Riley-Norton beckons this Tuesday (24th).

Ladies in a rush!

Our Ladies were in action again on Monday night.  Unfortunately however, we were up against a very experienced and consistent Hamstead Manor side who seemed to be in a rush to get home.  After some close initial games they began to pull away, and a 6-0 loss for us was confirmed a little over halfway through the night.

Thanks are due to those stepping in for a couple of missing regulars – I think you drew something of a short straw helping out with this game!
