For some the number 13 is unlucky but the 13th Bishop Auckland Bribar 2 star was a good event for David Gofton, winning both the Cadet and Junior Boys’ titles.

Seeded No 1 in the Cadets, David won the event dropping just one set, against Jamie Peacock in the quarter-finals. His opponent in the final was third seeded Adam Szabo who battled through the Cadets with a five-set victory over Luke Nimmo in the quarter-finals, and another five-set victory over second seed Che Goldbourne.

The Cadet boys’ plate was won by 12-year-old Luke Mitchell from Bishop Auckland, beating Cliffedale Chandlers Flynn Connolly in four games, with Matthew Pearson and Sean Stobart losing semi-finalists.

The Cadet Girls saw shocks galore. Top seeded Katie Bates ended up finishing second in her group, losing to Eve Witterick, while third seeded Steffi Popa finished third in group three to end up in the plate event. Only second seeded Anya Milne took the predicted place in the draw, before losing in five tight ends to Amy Mold, who in the round before had beaten Katie Bates.

The final saw Eve too strong for Amy, coming out winner in three. The plate event was won by Steffi Popa, beating clubmate Lucy Bridle in the final.

The Juniors wasn’t all plain sailing for Gofton, losing in his group to Lee Tinkler and having to take the other side of the draw. Sixth seed Chris Edwards was also beaten in the group by Sam Hume.

Withdrawals from seeded Luke Robinson and Dan Olsberg left the draw wide open. Top Seeded Kieran Wardell made his way to the semis where he then met Gofton, who came out winner in four. The other semi saw second seed Adam Webster overcome Ben Savage in three straight games, before a five-set final, with Gofton coming out winner.

The Junior Boys’ plate was won by David Porublak beating Jordan Dove 3-1 in the final with both players overcoming tight five-set semi-finals verse Tom Konarski and Adam Hanby.

The Junior Girls, unlike the boys’ event, went the way of the seeding, with top seeded Rana Raseem overcoming Zoe Hewitt over four games in the final, third seeded Charlotte Marsden and Katie Peacock losing semi-finalists. Reem Rassem made it a family affair taking the Junior Girls’ plate final, overcoming Steffi Popa.

The Under-13s saw both second seeds crowned champions. The Girls saw Anya Milne take home the title, beating Sophie Richardson. Sophie had won group one on countback, after beating Katie Bates and then losing to Rebecca Savage, she then beat Isabella Crooks in the semi with Anya beating Rebecca Savage. Katie Bates was plate event winner with a walkover vs Lucy Bridle.

The Boys saw Lennon Maughan crowned champion beating clubmate and top seed Ehsan Jawadi in the final, Jake Haygarth and Jay Misty-Moulton losing semi-finalists. Gregory Frey was crowned plate champion, beating Sebastian Kilsby in the final.
