Sintons employment lawyer Keith eyes glory at Masters Hockey World Cup

An employment lawyer has swapped the office for the hockey pitch in a bid for international glory.

Sintons’ Keith Land has been called up by England’s over-45s for the World Masters Hockey World Cup.

Keith – Sintons’ head of employment – will take to the field against Malaysia, South Africa, USA, France and Zimbabwe in the group stages of the South Africa-based tournament, which begins on October 1.

The final is on October 10, with matches livestreamed online to a global audience.

Keith – who represents Morpeth Hockey Club – is a longstanding member of England’s squad.

Having been part of the team’s victory in the Home Nations tournament in June, he also pulled on his country’s shirt at the 2017 indoor Masters World Cup.

And his latest selection marks another significant achievement for Keith, who was inspired to pick up a hockey stick by his father, who was a member of England’s team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games.

He said: “It is every player’s ambition to be part of a World Cup, and to be part of the squad to go to South Africa is fantastic.

“I can’t wait to get started and undoubtedly this will be an unforgettable experience.

“I’m really grateful for the support I have had from family, friends, teammates, and of course my Sintons colleagues, who are sparing me for two weeks while we bid to win the World Cup.”

Christopher Welch, Sintons’ managing partner, added: “We are very proud of Keith.

“Playing at the World Cup doesn’t get much bigger – it’s a phenomenal achievement.

“We wish him and the team every success and will hope to be calling him a ‘World Cup winner’ within the coming weeks.”
