‘Memorable event’ as Gurkha veterans descend on Nuneaton

A ‘momentous occasion’ was celebrated as Gurkha veterans gathered in Nuneaton. Proud old soldiers were among those who attended a special service at the district’s unique Gurkha memorial, on the edge of Riversley Park.

The event on Sunday (April 21) was organized by the Nuneaton-British Gurkha Veterans Association (BGVA) and was held to mark the ninth anniversary of the monument’s inauguration and to commemorate 209 years since Gurkha regiments joined the British army added.

“It was truly an honor to all join us in honoring the incredible legacy of the Gurkhas and their unwavering commitment to serve with courage, loyalty and distinction,” said Bhim Saru, retired Gurkha Captain and Chairman of the BGVA.

“We I hope that everyone who witnessed the event found the celebration both inspiring and meaningful, full of moments of reflection and pride. We thank everyone for taking the time to join us and for your continued support.

“We look forward to the opportunity to gather again in the future.” This year’s annual service included Tim Cox, the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire and Rajvinder Kaur, the High Sheriff of Warwickshire, who addressed the gathered crowd.

Mr Saru is running in the upcoming local elections in Nuneaton and Bedworth on May 2. Full details of all candidates can be found here.
