Oklahoma junior Spencer Goodell (Tigard, OR) excelled in the No. 2 Sooners’ victory over No. 13 Air Force and Arizona State at the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 16), winning the all-around title with a career-best 81.250, which ranks third nationally. Goodell tied or bested his career-highs on five of six events and finished in the top five on four events, including runner-up routines on parallel bars (13.800) and still rings (13.750). His top event scores were on vault (14.200, T-4th) and floor (14.000, 5th). This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Goodell...

NO. 2 SOONERS, NO. 13 FALCONS KICK-OFF 2021 SEASON
 
No. 2 OKLAHOMA totaled a first-place and 2021 national-high 414.450 to beat out host No. 13 Air Force as well as Arizona State at the Rocky Mountain Open to kick-off the season…The Sooners have won 21 of the past 22 Rocky Mountain Opens…Spencer Goodell claimed the all-around title with a career-high and nationally No. 3 ranked 81.250, while OU collected all six team event wins, and five individually…Matt Wenske was a double-event winner on parallel bars (14.150) and still rings (13.800)…Gage Dyer was the floor winner (14.850) as the Sooners surpassed 70 in the event (71.450)…Braden Collier scored a first-place 13.900 on pommel horse, while Morgan Seyler took the vault win (14.400) to lead OU to its second 70-plus total of the night.
 
No. 13 AIR FORCE freshman Garrett Braunton won the high bar in his collegiate debut with a mark of 13.950, as the Falcons placed second of three to kickoff the season by hosting the annual Rocky Mountain Open for the 41st-straight year (Jan. 16)…Air Force accumulated 384.100 to place behind No. 2 Oklahoma and ahead of Arizona State…Braunton’s score was the 11th-best event total in Academy history, while becoming just the sixth Falcon to capture an RMO title since 2001…He went on to place third all-around (78.200)…Allen Shadan finished third with a career-best on parallel bars (13.750).
 
No. 1 STANFORD is the nation’s top-ranked team in the College Gymnastics Association Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The defending NCAA Champion Cardinal, which returns seven All-Americans, has not yet begun the season.
 
No. 11 CALIFORNIA is scheduled to begin the 2021 season on January 30 against Arizona State, in a virtual meet.
