EMMITSBURG, Md. (July 14, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's Director of Cross Country, Track & Field
Jay Phillips has made three staff changes for the 2021-22 season.
Josh Poole earned a promotion to lead the cross country teams, and
Genamarie McCant elevates from Director of Operations to Assistant Coach. To fill McCant's slot,
Janay Fenner will serve in the operations position.
All three continue the tradition of track & field alumni serving on staff, with most once competing as student-athletes on the track & field roster.
Poole spent three years as an assistant for the Mountaineers, leading the jumpers. Over 20 student-athletes excelled to prominence at the conference level under his watch. This includes two-time Northeast Conference Most Outstanding Field Performer
Dylan LaNoue, who also competed at the NCAA Preliminaries this past May. Poole oversaw multiple IC4A/ECAC qualifiers and five All-NEC competitors.
McCant, a 2016 Mount grad, served three seasons in track operations, beginning as an assistant director in 2018. This is her second promotion within the ranks of the coaching staff, after rising to the Director of Operations role in 2020. Prior to the Mount she served as an assistant coach at Alvernia University, coaching the sprinters. In addition to her duties coordinating items for track & field, she also aided the sports information department with photography needs.
Fenner makes the leap from performing in the high jump as an undergrad to the staff. An alumnus of Baltimore City College, her best effort as a Mountaineer was a jump of 1.48 meters during last April's SFU Red Flash Invitational.
Poole takes over the cross country program from
Chris FitzSimons, who guided the women's team to a runner up finish and the men's team to third place at the NEC Championships last spring. He also led the men's squad to a conference title in 2018. McCant takes over the position vacated by Poole.
After COVID issues canceled most of the previous cross country campaign, the team is ready to compete in their usual fall season. Dates of meets will be announced later.
