Bowling’s Season Ends with Loss to Howard at MEAC Championships

NORFOLK, Va. – The Monmouth University Bowling Team saw its 2023-24 season come to a close on Saturday after going 1-2 at the 2024 MEAC Bowling Championships at Buffaloe Lanes North.
 
Monmouth pulled off a first round upset beating fourth-ranked UAB in the mega match format, 2-1. The Hawks cruised to a 99-pin victory in match one behind 200+ games from MEAC Third Teamer Jenna Lehrer (206) and MEAC Rookie of the Year Morgan Davis (200). UAB bounced back for a 942-924 win in the Baker format match before the Hawks took the best-of-seven Baker series, 4-2.

Monmouth would drop its second match of Friday to top-seeded North Carolina A&T, 2-0, setting up a date with eighth-seeded Howard on Saturday morning in the loser's bracket.

Howard won the first contest by a final score of 880-876, where Davis paced the Hawks with a 212 game. Monmouth responded with a 91-pin win in the Baker match to send the mega match to the best-of-seven series play. The Hawks dropped three of the first four games but earned a 207-206 nail-biting win to force a sixth game. Howard would pull off the upset by a final score of 179-177 in game six to win the series, 4-2, and the mega match, 2-1.
 
WRAP UP
The Hawks finish the season with a 36-31 overall record with 12 wins over nationally ranked opponents. It marks the third season in a row head coach Karen Grygiel has led her program to a winning record.
