lithograph on paper

Born in Argentina and raised in Italy, Fini shared close ties with influential members of the Surrealist movement and her work was showcased at the pioneering “Fantastic Art, Dada and Surrealism” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1936. Yet, she distanced herself from labeling her art as Surrealism, highlighting the movement’s misogynistic undertones. Her unique creations have been displayed in major cities like New York, Rome, Paris, and London, and she was a repeated contributor to the Venice Biennale and the São Paulo Biennial. Nowadays, her work is part of permanent collections in world-class institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate Modern, and Centre Georges Pompidou. Apart from her strikingly bold paintings, Fini is also remembered for her intricate and refined sketches.
