Great facility. Good set up. Nice viewing platform for observers. It's not cheap, so we don't go very often.
One thing to watch out for is that you cannot expect to just drop in. Check the schedule. There are classes going on most of the time. The only time you can drop in without an appointment is when they have "open gym". That's what we do and it's great. (We also call ahead to confirm that they are open and not closed for some private party or holiday or anything.)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Britt Y.Placentia, CA1774719Nov 7, 2020
Rented out Tempest for our kids birthday party. They allowed us to rent the entire gym for a private party. The kids are having a blast. The employee is super interactive with the kids.. even tailoring the experience for our 5 year old. Really cool place for kids to have a blast and burn off energy. COVID compliant.

I just had my first free class today (Saturday 2-3pm).
The staff here is great, very open and welcomes every new person who wants to try it out. I was 5 min late and just joined the exercise the people were already doing.
WARM UP:
It seems like the warm up is being done all together regardless of the level of skills. It's a fun and interactive thing. By splitting people up into 2 teams the coaches throw a few balls around the gym and the teams have to collect them as quick as possible. I think that's super fun and creative way to introduce people to this world of Parkour since you do have to get over the obstacles as quick as possible in order to get the balls.
GROUPS:
Depends on each individual skills you will be split into different groups: Beginners, more advanced, intermediate etc. One coach is assigned to each group who will train them.
I think this place is amazing for parkour and freerunning and you can definitely learn a lot. I won't think twice to get a membershipHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hey Tim,
We're very sorry for the mix-up, but your email made it into our spam folder, so we didn't notice it until we did our weekly check. I just sent you an email response going over some options you might like to get started in parkour, but if it's easier, feel free to give us a call anytime. We are here Mon-Fri from 3pm-9pm and all day on Sat and Sun, and always happy to chat. Your first class is always free, so if you want to drop in and try it out, there's no charge. I'll be happy to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have.
Thanks,
Brian

Guess they really give a shit about their business. I emailed them 5 days ago. Normally businesses get back to you within a day.
Why did they even put an email on their website if no one gives a flying fuck about potentially new people joining? - Sam F.Torrance, CA833Aug 9, 2017
Tonight marks the third time since I started paying Tempest $70/month for a monthly open gym membership in February 2016 (a year and a half ago) that Tempest has randomly been closed when it is scheduled to be open. All three times, there was no warning via email or other reasonable means.
The first time, the unexpected closure effected me and Scott McDonald in December 2016, who drove 30 min and 3 hours (one way) respectively to get to Tempest that night, and surely many others. I later learned there was a staff birthday party, so management knew in advance there would be a closure, but didn't bother to let the members know. The excuse was they didn't know how to mass email their customers to let them know ('...in 2016...'). C'mon, I got your automated email about my monthly payment going through 10 days ago, so I think you can figure out how to visit Mail Chimp or Aweber and setup an email blast account.
Then it happened to Alex Trofimov a month or two later in early 2017. And now once again tonight it happened to me in August, 2017. And once again Tempest Academy knew in advance paying monthly members would show up only to be turned away - this time not by a locked door and empty parking lot with no explanation, but by security guards protecting the big shoot you scheduled - and took no reasonable effort to ensure members and repeat visitors would have some kind of notice.
I absolutely love Tempest and the people who train there. So it is with deep regret that I must acknowledge the management's complete disregard for loyal monthly open gym paying members, and therefore cancel my membership and bring my money elsewhere. Thank you for the fond memories and OK flipping skills I've developed there.
P.S. Get some insulation and AC for chrissake. It's been hot as balls in there all summer.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

I'm truly sorry to see that these inconveniences led you to cancel your membership with us, Sam. We understand that we need to have a better way to notify our guests for unexpected closures, and we're working to put that system in place. It has been a complete oversight on our part when it comes to notifying open gym members of upcoming closures. We have our students in classes notified well ahead of any closures and we also put notices up in the gym, but we obviously missed you and our other monthly open gym members who may not be in every day. I really appreciate you saying that you love Tempest and the people who train there, and again I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you'll consider joining up with us again as I'm working to get this problem remedied.
All the best,

Ive heard good things about this place from several of my friends that are in stunts. And they do very well from themselves. I'm giving this place five stars becauause Tempest is generating fantastic energy, and I think more people should know about it! I do plan to go one day and check this place out. But If my friends learned to move like that from them... i know its worth it!
Thanks Tempest for your Awsome reputation!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michelle M.North Hollywood, CA054May 13, 2015
Great facility. If you're looking to learn parkour and freerunning, that is exactly what this place is for! This place is huge and has so many obstacles to offer. The coaches are good at what they do and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The prices are a little bit higher than their Chatsworth location, but the gym is bigger and they have more equipment to offer. All their information can be found online on their website, including rules and regulations, or you can call the facility when they're open.
Before participating, everyone needs to have an online waiver filled out. For anyone under 17, make sure your parents or legal guardian has filled one out for you. This is also located on their website conveniently if anyone happens to forget and drops in without mom or dad around!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Erin H.Manhattan Beach, CA7364Aug 31, 2018
This place has gone DOWN hill.
I used to love bringing my kids here. The staff WAS engaging, kind, helpful and even encouraging to children with special needs.
The staff's behavior has changed drastically and we won't be back until they change.
Telling children (8 and 9 year olds) at a birthday party that they are stupid for doing something or "shut the hell up" is never ok.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Juliet R.Marina Del Rey, CA223Sep 21, 2018
Wow, we were SO disappointed and confused! My son was excited all week to attend the Fortnite Event and believe me we were not expecting much for $20, but the coaches were awful. They clearly knew some of kids and they definitely received preferential treatment. It was terrible. In the end I asked one of the guys why some kids were not allowed to participate and he gave me a horrible condescending response. My child was beyond disappointed and it was clearly an us/them theme. We were considering having a birthday party here, but honestly even if it was free we would Never go back here! Save yourself the headache and avoid this place!
