    India win maiden Thomas Cup after defeating 14-time champion Indonesia! PM Modi dials team, Mahindra calls it historic

    On Sunday, it was a moment of national celebration after the Indian men’s badminton team created history by clinching the Thomas Cup. India registered a 3-0 victory over 14-time champions Indonesia. The final match of the Thomas Cup was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

    India’s victory was marked by the stellar performance of world championships medallists Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and the world number 8 doubles duo - Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. This is India's first-ever Thomas Cup victory in 73 years. The men's badminton team was rewarded Rs 1 crore by India's Sports Ministry for their extraordinary performance.

    Following the astounding victory, congratulatory messages poured in from all corners of the country.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian badminton team. In his tweet, he said that the entire nation was elated by India lifting the Thomas Cup.

    “The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons,” tweeted the Prime Minister.

    President Ram Nath Kovind said that the Indian team had set the highest standards for the future of generations of players.
    Industrialist Anand Mahindra called the astounding victory the dawn of an era of Indian ascendancy in badminton, a sport that is loved and played throughout the nation. The Mahindra boss also mentioned that he had grown up reading about Thomas Cup legends such as Rudy Hartono from Indonesia.
    Former captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli took to tweet to congratulate the badminton team. Kohli said that it was a historic feat and a significant moment for Indian badminton.
    Meanwhile, Bollywood actress and daughter of former Indian badminton champion Prakash Padukone, Deepika Padukone, took to Instagram to congratulate the Indian team. She said that it was a great moment for Indian badminton.
