Women's Soccer Falls to Queens in Double OT in SAC Semifinals

MATTHEWS, N.C. - A goal by Nia Gaither with less than a minute to go in double overtime gave #2 Queens a 1-0 win over the #3 Lenoir-Rhyne women's soccer team on Friday afternoon in Matthews, N.C. The Bears came up one game short of defending their SAC Tournament Championship from the spring season and will now hope for an NCAA at-large bid to continue their season.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

Just like the last two times these two teams played, the stats were almost exactly even. 
  • The Bears outshot the Royals 12-11.
  • Queens had the advantage in corner kicks 6-4.
  • The game featured two All-Conference goalkeepers in Erica Turner from Queens and Grayson Cameron from LR. Turner made six saves, and Cameron made four. 
  • Each team committed 15 fouls in the match. 
  • All-Conference perfomer Leonie Proessl led the Bears with five shots and three shots on goal. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This game broke a three-game winning streak for LR over Queens. The Bears still hold the advantage in the all-time series 11-8-2. 
  • It also broke a four-game winning streak in the SAC Tournament for the Bears. 
  • These two teams met in last year's SAC Tournament Championship game, and it also went to overtime with the Bears taking a 2-1 win. 
  • The game-winning goal was Gaither's first goal since Oct. 16, and her fourth goal of the season.
