Flip Some Beer Mats – Marston Green Tavern

So after planning to make my way over to Sutton Coldfield after being made aware that I haven’t ventured over to that side of the city yet, I got myself together and headed out for a few hours.

After making my way to Marston Green train station and there being a multitude of problems on the train lines I accepted my journey would be a local one. And ended up in the Marston Green Tavern (The tavern).

Now the tavern is a funny old pub for me, I’ve frequented it a few times with mixed visits and stories to tell, but it’s only fair that I review this place on this visit alone. And so it begins.

The pub is situated on a corner just down from the train station which is pretty convenient, the large car park which is free for customers is decent and they have sky’s ports and serve food. So far so good. It borders Marston green and chelmsley wood so you get a mixed bunch in here. I had previously drank on the bar and found the boistourous local crowd to not be the most inviting to an outsider, but on this account I opted for the lounge.

A small bar it’s manned by two females who both attempted to serve me a pint of Stella which on both times they got wrong. Firstly a carling I received, and on the second time I corrected the order which I was given a strongbow to finally get a Stella….. In a carling glass. Not gaining points here.

I take a seat in the empty lounge and it’s very warm, plenty of room and TV screens so this is a plus. The beer is cold and lively so again that’s a plus. I come across a sign about cask ales, which was a let down but I’ll get over it.

This place is proper no frills, I guess it’s only busy at the weekend as there is nowhere else to go locally.

For a quick pint between trains yeah I’ll take it.

3 out of 5 beer mats.
