Full minutes to follow once I have typed them all up
End of season tournament 2018
As per previous years the players were split into two groups, these were dependent on ability in order to make each and every game as fun and as competitive as possible (All photos courtesy of Chloe Hambly)
Group 1:
In this group 14 players took part and again the top four progressed to the semi-finals, or so we thought. Owen Ellis topped group one by winning 12 out of his 13 games but a freak injury whilst playing football on Sunday meant he had to pull out, but because of his excellent sportsmanship he still turned up on crutches in support of the club, also absent was James Waite due to illness which meant Will Bastow and Dan Aston made it at their expense, joining them in the semi-finals were tournament favourites Matt Burgin and George Hilliard.
Matt beat Dan with some very good shot selections 15-12 in the first of the semi-finals, the second semi went much the same way as the first as George beat Will Bastow 15-11.
In the final George upped his game and he played some delightful net shots for which Matt had no answer and George went on to win the final 15-8.

Group 2:
In this group 10 players took part with everyone playing each other in a league format, with the top four going through to the semi-finals. There were no real surprises other than Barney Stancombe making it into the semi-finals; Barney last year’s runner up had a 6 handicap in 2017, this year it was reduced to 2, but better players were expected to progress at his expense.
Elise Buttrey, Will Cain, and Georgina Hay made the semi-final line up, all matches were played to 15 points instead of the usual Badminton England’s 21 points, with the handicapping system working very well again this year.
Elise Buttrey beat Georgina Hay 15-10 in the first of the semi-finals and Barney beat Will Cain 15-13 to make it to the final for the second year in a row, could he upset the form book by winning it off a handicap, something that has not been done since the club started back in 2012.
The Final was highly competitive and a great deal of skill shown by both players, Elise started well but Barney fought back and the unorthodox left hander went one better than last year and triumphed 15-12 to the delight of his family who came along to watch.

The Medals and trophies this year were presented by Dave Hambly, Lead Coach and Chairman of the club.
Also given to all of the finalists were 'love-to-shop' vouchers for them to spend as they please,
The club would like to thank all the coaches who give their time voluntarily – Dave Hambly, Andy Peat, Mike Burlace, Chris Hambly and Shaun Cooper – to make the tournament happen and, more importantly, have made the club so successful over the past seven years. A special thanks also goes to Chloe Hambly for taking the photos this year.

Badminton Charity Marathon
Saturday 22nd July marks the start of our Charity Marathon matches and our World Record attempts in aid of Cancer Research UK, we will be hopefully starting at 08:15 and going through to the afternoon sometime on the Sunday.
Anyone is welcome to come along after 10:00 on the Saturday to play alongside us on adjacent courts or just be there to watch and enjoy the matches and cheers us on.
We as a club would like to thank everyone who has made this event possible but a special thanks is for all the Witnesses and time keepers who are present at all different hours who ultimately have made the World Record attempt possible. Also a special thanks to Teign School and their workers, especially Gary Payne who have kindly granted us the courts free of charge for this event and has helped us on numerous occasions to help us practice in readiness for the event.
Fingers crossed everything goes to plan and that on Sunday we are holders of not only 1 Guinness World Record, but 2 world records! Good luck guys!

Annual General Meeting Minutes
The Annual General Meeting took place this year at the Sandygate Inn in Kingsteignton, a short walk from Teign School on Wednesday 24th May at 19:00.
Dave Hambly, Andy Peat, Mike Burlace, Chris Hambly and Shaun Cooper, all of which are coaches at the club were in attendance, along with Sarah Owen whom is a mother of a player.
The first point on the agenda was the current positions of the volunteers in terms of their role within the running of the club, of which we all decided that we were happy where we were and that no positions would change.
The positions within the club are as follows:
Dave Hambly - Chairman.
Andy Peat - Treasurer
Mike Burlace - Secretary
Chris Hambly - Lead Junior Liaison Officer
Shaun Cooper - Assistant Junior Liaison Officer
The only change from last year is the addition of Shaun Cooper to the register of coaches after he passed his Level 1 coaching award. From that his role now within the club, along with being a coach, is now a Junior Liaison Officer alongside Chris.
With this role, if any members or players have any concerns or anything they want changing or put to other coaches then they are the first port of call before they pass it on and discuss with the other coaches.
With Chris and Shaun being past players and still relatively young we feel the role suits them best as the players find it easier to talk to people their own age.
During the AGM there were discussions regarding new equipment and we decided that the use of larger suitable targets are required. With that we are buying some pots which act like targets for shots on the courts.

Next term starting date
After the yearly AGM all the details for next season's sessions have been decided.
Frist session back:
Wednesday 13th September
Also, after a discussion we have decided to adapt the payments for the session.
Last season we found that many of the members would often arrive with insufficient funds for the session, we have made a ruling for said issue that we will allow a maximum of 1 week delay of payment providing the next session the member arrives with money for the last session and current session.
With that we, as a club, would like the members to pay upfront for a block term of session thus removing the need for loose money each week.
Following this we have decided to make it an incentive to block pay by reducing the cost if you pay upfront.
The clubs cost has not changed since we extended the session for the members to 1 hour and 30 mins.
The cost last season was £3.50 per session however in an attempt to get the members to block pay the individual cost
per session has gone up to £4.50 however if you block book the term the cost goes down to £3.50 per session.

Tournament 2017
Over the past 3 weeks we ran our End of Season Tournament.
In the Younger group seven of our players took part where they played the standard league format as per previous years with the top four going through to the semi-finals. Two players that done exceptionally well were Barney Stancombe and Cerys Richards who both made it through the group stages to the semi-finals.
Last year's winner Owen Ellis had been promoted to the older group, so there had to be a new name for the trophy this year.
Alexander Hay beat Ben Kench 15-8 in the first semi-final with Barney Stancombe making his way to the final by beating Cerys Richards, also 15-8.
All matches were played to 15 points instead of the standard Badminton England 21 due to the time frame of the tournament but with a added handicap in order to boost certain players scores in order to make the games even more competitive.
The final was highly competitive and a great deal of skill was shown, and with Barney starting off with a 6 point handicap it made for an interesting final, but tournament favourite Alexander Hay wrapped up the game by winning 15-12.
The older group say 14 players taking part, being split into two groups with the top two from each group going through to the semi-finals.
Owen Ellis and George Hilliard, last year's younger group winner and runner-up, both progressed to the semi-finals at the expense of some older and better players.
Unfortunately for them, they both lost in the semis with Tom Lee beating Owen 15-11, and Matt Groves beating George 15-7.
Matt, runner-up in 2016, went one better this time round by beating Tom in the final 15-8 to become the new champion.

The medals and trophies were presented by Ben Williamson, Service Manager Volvo Kastner Exeter, who surprised everyone by giving both winners a remote controlled XC90 Volvo toy car as a special prize.
We as a club would like to thank each and everyone who took part in the tournaments as it was as enjoyable as ever and we can say that we could see that everyone tried their best and made the competition as fun and as competitive as always.

Sponsorship deal
As a club we are pleased to announce that Volvo Kastner Exeter shall be sponsoring the club for the forthcoming season.
They kindly sponsored us last season where they gifted the club a new production of KSJBC shirts but not only that, Ben Williamson, Volvo Service Manager, gifted the two winners of the end of season tournament with a Volvo XC90 toy car. This is something the club did not know about and was a fantastic surprise to all.
Our thanks goes to the team at Volvo Kastner Exeter for once again sponsoring us.
