TRAMLINES ANNOUNCE OVER £200k RAISED FOR LOCAL CAUSES The Tramlines Trust has announced the 27 organisations that have received funding grants in 2023. They’re delighted to announce that the majority of this funding will go directly to Hillsborough-based organisations. The £57.6k raised by Tramlines in 2023 brings the total to a whopping £213,000 since 2018, with an incredible £3.7m boost to the local economy in 2023 (independent report by Sheffield City Council).

Tramlines Operations Director, Timm Cleasby, said: “To see the full range of people and projects supported in 2023 is fantastic. It’s wonderful to see all the organisations that are benefitting and how they’re using the funding. Our city is full of people and organisations doing great things in the creative industries and it’s a privilege to support their activities.” The Trust was born out of a desire to uplift and give back to the surrounding

communities and culture at the heart of Tramlines Festival. Some of the grant highlights from Hillsborough include a £5k donation to Hillsborough Together which will help fund the Christmas lights event in Hillsborough Town Centre. There’s support for the Hillsborough Hornet’s Disability FC who need a bigger pitch plus training for more volunteers and RivelinCo, which is close to the festival site in the famous Rivelin Valley. Linda

Bloomfield, the Founding Director said that money from Tramlines will be used to, “create and curate exciting shows, projects and events in unexpected places such as parks, schools, community centres and empty shops, and we lead creative workshops that bring together people of all ages and walks of life to learn new skills.” Mental health charity Adira, will use funding from Tramlines to buy Christmas gifts for

disadvantaged children across the city whilst Hillsborough-based, Bright Iris CIC, will support vulnerable employees in the workplace. Sheffield Cycling 4 All will help disabled people learn to cycle in Hillsborough Park.

Applications will be open for the next round of funding in Spring 2024. More information can be found at tramlines. org.uk/tramlines-inthe-community/thetramlines-trust/

THE CIRCUS RETURNS TO TOWN WITH BECKY HILL ANNOUNCED AS FIRST HEADLINER UK Pop queen Becky Hill is the first headliner to be announced for the second edition of the Rock N Roll Circus big top music event to be held in Sheffield next summer. The ‘Lose Control’ star - known for her exuberant live shows will head to Don Valley on Friday August 30. Becky will be joined by UK DJ star Joel Corry, the chart-topping internet sensation Talia Mar, Issey Cross and ADMT. Launched last year, with a big homecoming show for Self Esteem, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and many more, the 2024 edition is set to be

even more impressive, with an extended 4-day lineup that promises an unforgettable experience for attendees. It opens on Thursday, August 29 at 12noon and continues through to Sunday, September 1. Organisers of the eagerly anticipated event will be announcing more headliners and a full lineup very soon. Rock N Roll Circus, known for its electrifying atmosphere, thrilling performances, and diverse entertainment, with the main stage set under a gigantic, big top tent, promises an even more

extraordinary experience in 2024. A hit machine since her teens, the pop icon Becky Hill has forged her own path to fame. As successful as a songwriter as she is as an artist, as fierce behind the scenes as she is on stage and as credible as she is commercial, the 29year-old has become one of Britain’s most successful musicians entirely on her own terms. Only Honest On The Weekend, her years-inthe-making debut album, is both Becky as you know her and as you’ve never heard her before. It arrives on the heels of the gold-

selling Get To Know, (a collection of singles Becky either released herself or wrote and guested on), which turned the writer of ten Top 40 hits (including eight platinum records) and a singer with over 1.75 billion streams on Spotify alone, into a household name. A spokesperson for Rock N Roll Circus said: “Rock N Roll Circus is not just a music gathering, it is a multi-day extravaganza that combines the thrill of live music with the mesmerizing world of circus entertainment. We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Becky to the

party next year. She’s an artist that is firmly at the peak of her powers and she’s a colossal talent. “So, get ready for an unforgettable weekend of music, circus, and entertainment at the enchanting Rock N Roll Circus Sheffield. It is set to return for another sensational year, bringing together the best of live music and circus entertainment in a unique and vibrant celebration.” Featuring multiple stages, spectacular aerialists, street food, VIP areas, beers, cocktails, and much more, the festival has become a must-attend event for

music and entertainment enthusiasts. Four days of incredible live music under the big top create an atmosphere like no other. Tickets for Becky Hill at Rock N Roll Circus Sheffield 2024 go on sale Friday 1st December at 9am. Pre-sale opens at 9 am Wednesday 29th November for those that have registered. This morning I made sure my wife woke up with a big smile on her face. I’m not allowed felt tips in the bedroom anymore. I love jokes about the eyes. The cornea the better. Last night, I gave my girlfriend a medieval battle uniform to polish whilst I went to the pub. She always said she wanted a night in, shining armour. My boss is threatening to fire the employee with the worst posture. I have a hunch it might be me. Yesterday, I gave up my seat on the bus for a blind person. Today, I lost my job as a bus driver. My computer was idle for 10 minutes, then suddenly a picture of Jesus popped up. It’s my new screen saviour. I like to cook dangerously. I take whisks in the kitchen. I was out with my young daughter and ran into a friend I’d not seen in years. “This is Beth.” I said, introducing my kid. “And what’s Beth short for?” he asked. “Because she’s only three,” I replied. cathedral’s light show it’s white ribbon day! family business In recent years Sheffield Cathedral has built up a reputation for kicking off the city’s Christmas festivities in style with their spectacular lightshow. But this year it’s going to be extra special. Sheffield Cathedral Illuminated: Starlight, supported by Utilita Energy Hub, is making its debut. If you’re first through the doors at 5.30pm on the night, you’ll be witnessing a world premiere. And that’s not all, unlike previous years, the Cathedral is opening up its forecourt so anyone passing by can watch the dazzling projections on the exterior walls of this ancient building. Enjoy singing carols next to a 26-foot Christmas tree from 5pm every night until the lightshow starts including the first Family Sing-a-long on Saturday 9 December! Once inside visitors will go on a spectacular sensory journey with the three wise men. You’ll be immersed in a bespoke soundscape and dazzling light projections, following the starlight to the heart of the nativity story. Wander around the building and soak up the festive feelings of goodwill, see the beauty of more than 40 Christmas trees each decorated by a local charity, community group or business, sample seasonal treats in 1554 Coffee and Gift Shop and light a candle next to the famous Sheffield Steel Nativity. It’s White Ribbon Day on Saturday and it’s everyone’s opportunity to sign a pledge against violence towards women and girls. Sheffield City Council is showing its commitment to working towards achieving gender equality and ending violence against women and girls (VAWG). The global White Ribbon campaign encourages people, and especially men and boys, to individually and collectively take action to change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence. To sign the White Ribbon pledge and wear a white ribbon is a promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women. Councillor Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “We’re standing against violence towards women and girls, and we are proud to be an accredited White Ribbon organisation that is committed to ending violence against women and girls. “Around 6,000 people seek support from domestic abuse services in Sheffield each year, and around 90% of them are women. Violence against women and girls is under-reported nationally which is why we’re asking men and boys to become ‘ambassadors’ to call out abusive and sexist behaviour and to promote a culture of equality and respect to help end violence against women. We’re asking women to be ‘champions’ to encourage and inspire men and boys to ‘say no’ to violence against women. We will take every opportunity to educate, change behaviours and call out unacceptable behaviour whenever we see it. Our two-year action plan prioritises working with children and young people to recognise sexist behaviour and language and how it is used in society to create an environment that leads to violence and abuse being

world. Opening up the forecourt so the whole of Sheffield can enjoy the sounds and sights of this year’s spectacular lightshow is our gift to the city. I hope as many people as possible join us this week and throughout Advent and Christmas as we share together in a variety of services filled with joy, wonder and light in this ancient place of worship.” The Cathedral is once again collaborating with the award-winning Luxmuralis to bring this remarkable event to the city. Peter Walker, Artistic Director said: “We are thrilled to be returning to Sheffield Cathedral. It is a highlight of our calendar to bring art to the city at Christmas time, which it has embraced so wonderfully over the past few years. We are delighted that this year the project will also allow more people to experience the outside of the Cathedral, before venturing inside to see this sacred place come to life through a truly immersive experience. We have a wonderful partnership with the fantastic team at the Cathedral and it is therefore fitting that we will present Starlight for the first time here in Sheffield.” Sheffield Cathedral Illuminated: Starlight opens at 5.30pm on Tuesday 5 December and runs for five nights through to Saturday 9 December. Tickets are priced £7.25 for adults, £6 for children aged 4 to 16. Children 3 and under are free. Family options also available. We have already launched of our first Women and Girls Nighttime Safety Charter, we have developed resources for Sheffield Against Sexual Harassment, including the promotion of the Ask for Angela scheme in venues, bars, and other premises, and we support the city’s Violence Against Women and Girls Forum. Our two-year action plan prioritises working with schools and youth clubs over the winter and spring through Youth Services and with Learn Sheffield, developing a training course for staff on what staff members can do to help end VAWG by thinking about preventing sexism in daily life, including at work. We want to equip staff members so that they can challenge sexist behaviour and language effectively. This campaign is about every single one of us ensuring that we ‘say no’ now and always, to violence against women and girls. It has no place in our society and no place in this city.” People can sign up to the pledge and find out more about White Ribbon Day at www.whiteribbon.org.uk White Ribbon UK is part of the global White Ribbon movement to end men’s violence against women and is the leading charity that is ending men’s violence against women by engaging with men and boys to make a stand against violence. Eric Eyre go the extra mile to provide an exceptional service and will take responsibility for ensuring everything is perfectly organised to deliver a fitting tribute to your loved one’s life story. “Just as other aspects of life have evolved, so has society’s approach to funerals, with modern funerals a very different affair to the traditional, formal black-tie events of years gone by,” says Wayne Pickering, manager at Eric Eyre Funeral Service. “For many, a funeral has moved from being a sombre affair to a celebration of life – complete with all that you’d expect from any other celebration, including music, entertainment and laughter. That is why we are always on hand to offer guidance on the many ways we can add a personal touch, just let us know what you would like and we will do our utmost to meet your requirements.” “ With over 20 years’ experience of the industry, and many years’ previous experience with John Fairest, Wayne was

offered the opportunity to join Eric as manager in 2017, “I joined John Fairest as a hearse driver in 1997 and was later promoted to funeral director. It was there that I learnt how to arrange and conduct funerals, as well as the correct way to handle and line coffins and how to prepare the deceased for the family to pay their respects. This gave me a full scope of all aspects of the job and after ten years of service I was offered the position of manager at a new branch on Abbey Lane, which I accepted. In September 2017 I was offered the opportunity to join the team at Eric Eyre’s and to ‘move back home’, as I say, as I live local to both branches. It was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and develop an already friendly family run business and provide our local community with a warm and compassionate service.” Completing the team at High Green is Sharon Clayton and Kay Cooper, while Beverley Travis and Ruth Fenlon look after the branch at Sheffield Lane Top, which opened four years ago. “Our aim is to be there for our clients in every way that we can and make sure that their loved one is sent on their final journey exactly as they would have wanted. Your first point of contact will be the person you deal with throughout the process and whether the death has occurred at home, in a hospital or elsewhere, we will guide from the initial arrangement all the way through to directing the funeral. We even provide help following the service, should you need any further support or guidance.” If you need help arranging a funeral for your loved one, contact Eric Eyre Funeral Service.

Attractive Refurbishment Completed at the Centre Spot, Gleadless With a special extra for Snooker Players When recently retired local man Steve Wilson learned that his favourite hostelry was on offer, he had a change of heart, and career, by taking over the tenancy of the Centre Spot in Gleadless, Sheffield. Adding to owner Stonegate’s investment, Steve has helped fund a major refurbishment of this highly popular pub. In addition to some brilliant new decoration and furnishings, a brand new Snooker Lounge has been created, with a three-quarter size

table housed in a separate room with it’s own bar. Snooker players will be delighted with the results. Between now and Christmas, Steve and his team have arranged for Live Entertainment acts to appear every week, with Night Birds appearing this Saturday 2nd December. Steve says, ‘ I would like to thank all those involved for all their hard work. They have done a fantastic job. Its new look is modern and

vibrant, and receiving praise from everyone who comes to visit the team here. I would like to thank our customers old and new for their patience and support through this lengthy process; we are looking forward to seeing you all soon. Centre Spot 56 Jaunty Lane Gleadless S12 3DN

Extended Euro 2024 hours ‘essential’ for pubs and bars Home Office proposals will allow licensed premises to open later for the semi-final and final, if the home nations reach that stage of the tournament. The proposals, if taken forward, would extend licensing hours on the days of the semi-final (9 and/ or 10 July) and final (14 July) to 01:00am, if England, Scotland or Wales were playing in those matches. Chief Executive of UK Hospitality Kate Nicholls said: “Euro 2024 is set to be a huge event for hospitality businesses next summer as fans pack pubs and bars to cheers on the home nations. “We support the Home Office proposals to extend licensing hours for the semi-finals and final,

should we reach that stage of the tournament. Major sporting events provide a huge revenue boost and extended hours are essential to allow venues and fans to take full advantage. This sort of advance planning benefits fans, businesses and the Government, and is exactly the

type of approach we have been advocating for in our engagement on this issue for many years. I’m pleased the Home Office is consulting well in advance, acting on our calls on behalf of the sector.” The consultation runs until Monday 19 February 2024.

The Upbeat Beatles are second to none - powerhouse vocals, precision harmonies and tight musicianship. The guys have an easy, happy rapport with any crowd, giving them a reputation to be envied as the best in the business. There isn’t a band to touch them - 8 bars of “Twist and Shout” and you will know why! No other band can perform this song like The Upbeat Beatles! The show takes you through the Fab Four’s long and winding road from the early Cavern days through Beatlemania, America, Sergeant Pepper to Abbey Road, with narrative and full multi-media presentation. blades rue slow start as unbeaten run ends ROHL: “I am here United’s two-match unbeaten run came to an untimely end as Bournemouth left Bramall Lane with the points on Saturday afternoon. Marcus Tavernier bagged a brace, with a goal in each half, with Justin Kluivert getting a scoresheet after an unfortunate slip by Wes Foderingham on the stroke of half-time.s United named an unchanged starting XI as they returned to Premier League action at S2. Boss Heckingbottom kept

faith with the team on duty at Brighton & Hove Albion, but bolstered his options from the bench, with McBurnie and Ahmedhodžić returning to the matchday 20. On a bitterly cold afternoon, it was the visitors who struck first after 12 minutes as TAVERNIER produced an excellent first touch and finish past Foderingham from Semenyo’s reverse pass. The scorer then had a sight of second, but Robinson produced a timely intervention, before Kluivert dragged an effort wide and

Solanke fired into sidenetting. Norwood was booked for dissent as United struggled to get into the contest and as half-time drew closer Bournemouth seized the initiative, despite Tavernier wasting a golden opportunity for his second. But following a slip by Foderingham, KLUIVERT produced a composed finish to double the Cherries advantage before the interval. United made a double change at the break, but five minutes into the

second half, TAVERNIER made no mistake this time volleying home after he was found unmarked in the six yard box from Smith’s right-wing centre. The visitors were visibly full of confidence, but Foderingham made a smart save to deny Semenyo and Solanke failed to hit the target with the rebound. On the hour, United went in search of a goal to get themselves back into the game, but McAtee didn’t keep his effort down after McBurnie had seen his

ODOFFIN CAPS ANOTHER FINE McCann rues DISPLAY WITH MATTRESS sickening blow ONLINE M.o.m. AWARD Rotherham United midfielder Hakeem Odoffin has continued his rich vein of form by landing another Mattress Online Man of the Match award, for his display in Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Leeds Untied at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship. Odoffin – who had excelled as a centre back in the Millers’ last two outings – was deployed in his more familiar role in midfield against the Whites and notched his third goal of the campaign to restore parity, following Crysencio Summerville’s welltaken opener for Leeds. The 25-year-old benefitted from some good industry by midfield partner Christ Tiehi, who found Odoffin the box before he fired in a strike on the turn to beat Illan Meslier. Haks earned himself 63.9% of the 1,082 votes cast on the night, nominated alongside Ollie Rathbone, Sam Nombe and Christ Tiehi.

after Crewe’s injury time winner Grant McCann thought his side were the only likely winners throughout an impressive second half display at Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two. Growing into the game after a slow start, Rovers began to dominate possession and turned that into an early lead through Mo Faal before the hosts hit back twice before the break. Rovers dominated for much of the second half getting themselves back on level terms with Joe Ironside adding to his tally with a perfectly placed header, but falling to a late goal in injury time to travel home empty-handed. “I felt the first five-minutes we started slowly and then we had a 25-minute period we were strong and scored in that spell”, McCann said. “The first goal is a poor one for us to concede, we

shot blocked by Sensi after Ahmedhodžić had freed Baldock. Osborn replaced Thomas, before Baldock was booked for kicking the ball at the grounded Kerkez and tempers threatened to boil over with Robinson and substitute Billing cautioned for their reactions to the initial incident. Sinisterra twisted and turned to create an opportunity having got the better of Trusty, but Foderingham was equal to his strike at his near post. Fleck and Osula entered the

fray as United chased a consolation and the latter saw a strike blocked by Zabarnyi before Neto parried away an effort after the young forward had powered clear of Sensi. In the final minute of added time, the Blades got themselves a goal for their efforts as MCBURNIE rose unmarked at the back post to guide a header past Neto from Baldock’s inviting centre, but it was nothing more than a consolation on what was a disappointing afternoon.

just let their right sided centre half run and he ends up playing a one-two and scoring. It’s poor from our point of view. “The second one is really disappointing because it’s something we worked on. A long throw and O’Riordan has managed to flick it up for himself and volley it in the net.” Moving on to the second half McCann felt much more positive about the way Rovers went about their business. “The second half was all about whether we could respond. We spoke to the players about the energy and tempo we want to play at, you’ve got to play on the front foot. “I thought second half we were excellent. There was only going to be one team that was going to win the game and it’s a sickening blow to concede that goal right at the end. “I believe we’re a match for any team in the division and little moments just aren’t going our way at the moment. We had so many chances and I thought we were going to win the game in that second half.”

to be a fighter” Danny Röhl says his team will continue to fight, after Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew’s. The Owls took the lead in the Midlands courtesy of George Byers and saw spells of control against the Blues, but the hosts came from behind to take the points. Röhl was pleased with elements of his side’s performance, but insists they need to show consistency across the full 90 minutes. The German said: “I feel disappointed. I think in five games since I came here we have been the better team, but just one time we have taken something and this is disappointing for sure. “Today, we played on nearest our highest level but to take something you need to do this for the whole time. We have to go forward, I know it’s a hard way to go, but I want to improve the team and create something. When you look at our games, you can see there is a way, we press high and press together. “I’ve told the players that I am not here to wave the white flag, I am here to be a fighter and I will do everything to take points. I think everybody recognises that we are trying everything. “We are training to make the intensity about the full 90 minutes, we have to be strong as a team. “You could see after 20 minutes we came back in the second half and had control again, and we were dangerous but in the end it’s not enough and it’s frustrating at the moment.” Röhl was pleased to see Byers net his first goal of the season, but Juninho Bacuna’s instant reply for Wayne Rooney’s side summed up a frustrating afternoon at St Andrew’s. The 34-year-old added: “We deserved the lead and maybe for the score to be more than 1-0. I am disappointed with the goal we conceded for 1-1. “It was a good goal and good to score before half time, but in the next two or three minutes it is always dangerous because there will be a reaction from the opponent. We spoke at half time about what we can do better and in the end it was a pity we didn’t take something.”
