Hard drive to finals Hampton Park Bowls HAMPTON Park’s Division 1 Midweek team faces an uphill battle to play finals after a disappointing loss at Narre Warren. Marion Battaglia, Toni Sutton, Andrew Brandolin and Neville Hendrie were closest, losing 12-14. Val Moore, Ann Westwell, Ellen Smith and Chris Hendrie went down 17-23 but Geoff Ladner, Ron Beverly, Helen Lambert and Denise Eastick had a day to forget, losing 9-30. Narre Warren (1) 16-67 defeated Hampton Park (1) 0-38. At Pound Road Division 3 almost guaranteed themselves a home final with two rounds to go after a 22 shot win over Caulfield Park Alma. Lou Soligo, June Damon, Heather Naismith and Geoff Ampt led the day with a 27-15 win, while Grace Hogan, Jen Sherry, Gwen Clough and Ray Wood won 27-21. Bob Nicol, Jim Westwell, Rob Woff and Peter Hayden had to battle all day, with only four ends scoring more than a single shot and won 1511. Hampton Park (2) 16-69 defeated Caulfield Park Alma (4) 0-47. Saturday was another disaster for all Hampton Park teams. The losses leave all teams in eighth place on their ladders and facing relegation. The only way out is to win their last games next week and hope teams around them lose. At home Division 1 had its chance midway through the day against St Kilda but faltered and lost by 12 shots. Moorabbin (1) 16-123 defeated Hampton Park (2) 2-67.

Big stars can score to the max CRANBOURNE BOWLS CRANBOURNE’S top sides fired this week with big wins to both the ladies and the men. Saturday Pennant Cranbourne side one defeated Noble Park at home on all four rinks by 27 shots giving them maximum points for the day. The big stars this week were skipper John Mulder and his team of Paul O’Day, Ron Gascoigne and good old reliable Joe Byrne who won by 21 shots in the end after flying out of the blocks with a 24 shot start before the opposition scored any points. According to team manager Steve Bentley: “That start gave the other three rinks the confidence to just play out the game and try and win full points knowing that victory was well within reach.” Ladies Pennant The ladies had another big win this time against Mulgrave County Club with a 23 point victory and full points obtained on the day. A great result from skip Freda Farrall and her team of Kathy Dudink, Joyce Pearce and Lynne Wood who won by 19 shots on the day. Cranbourne results for round 17. Winning streak snaps CRANBOURNE RSL BOWLS SATURDAY PENNANT DIVISION 2 Burden Park 91 defeated Cranbourne RSL 65. THE RSL’s winning streak of four games in a row came to an end with a 26 shot loss to Burden Park. Losing two top bowlers on the morning of the game did not help but the team seemed a bit flat after their great efforts over the past four weeks. The team is safe for another year in Division 2. Results J Wylie, W Brannan, H Rogers, B Bradbury 16-18. F Scicluna, G Dore, K Murray, K Hocking 17-22. R Townley, T Byrnes, N Fell, R Chapman 29-21. K Currie, G Jones, B Eagle, M Watkinson 11-22. DIVISION 5 Cranbourne RSL 92 defeated Mentone 60. The RSL on the back of Yvonne’s v d Wees sides 27 shot win overcome a determined fourth placed Mentone. The J Vowles team also did well winning by 10 shots. Next week is the crunch game. A win leaves the team top of the ladder but a loss means it finishes third, and faces an way first final. DIVISION 8 TEAM 3 Glen Waverley 54 defeated Cranbourne RSL 35 In a game it needed to win to keep its final four hopes alive, the RSL was out bowled by Glen Waverley. Results H Reefman, P Campion, M MacIntyre 1825 A Underwood, P Leake, B Mason 17-29 TEAM 4 Had the day off with a bye and with a last round walkover will finish second on the ladder and a home final, Saturday 5 March. MIDWEEK PENNANT RESULTS DIVISION 3 Cranbourne RSL 73 defeated Oakleigh 45 In the clash of the top two teams the RSL came up trumps recording a sound 28 shot win. The ladies led by Yvonne v d Wees were on fire again recording a lovely 19 shot victory. Still top of the ladder but a couple of tough games to go to finish the home and way season. But, unfortunately, that’s what happened. The third side, which has hardly lost a game all year, went down by 15 shots while the other two sides recorded narrow victories. The four points were still valuable as they kept the team in second spot on the ladder. Results Daniel Muir, Mat Hogan, Bill Bradbury, Steve Hickson 26-24.
