Muddy Stilettos Review

Welcome to Edgeborough!

Situated in 50 acres of beautiful countryside just outside Farnham, Surrey, our stunning grounds enhance the educational provision we offer. Here’s what our staff, pupils and parents think...

“When I joined Edgeborough I loved making new friends and playing with them in the adventure playground and Prep courtyard. I also loved all my lessons because the teachers made learning so fun!”

Year 4 pupil

“Our child skips into school and we feel the teachers get the best out of him. He is given extra work for easier topics, and additional support in areas in which he struggles. It’s safe to say he is reluctant to leave at the end of each day!”

Parent of Year 2 pupil

“We have had three children go through Edgeborough and they have all been extremely happy and come out as well rounded, personable and polite children. We could not have asked for more.”

Happily Engaging

2
Edgeborough values an all-round development and provides a balanced, first class education, with our emphasis always on providing a happy, family atmosphere.

The wellbeing and positive mental health of the children here is our first priority. The warm, family atmosphere within the school community is something that is felt by everyone, enabling pupils to develop an independence which aids their future adventures and gives them confidence to excel.

There is a culture of mutual trust and respect between pupils and staff where the fundamental principles are giving your best, treating others kindly and maintaining a positive approach to school life.

A generous teacher:pupil ratio and small class sizes ensure that each child’s progress is recognised and encouraged. This will continue to be central to the school ethos – ensuring pupils receive an education that recognises the individual and that each child’s contribution is valued.

Mistakes are not frowned upon here, instead, they are learned from. We strive for a culture of creativity and exploration where children aren’t afraid of getting things wrong, and if they do, there is a superb network of support that pupils and parents can turn to. Every pupil who comes through the School leaves with friendships, interpersonal skills and a self-confidence that make a lasting impression.

“Parents have nothing but praise for the school’s pastoral care, staff know the children so well, they really help children grow in confidence and self-esteem.”

Edgeborough offers a carefully balanced, all-round education which aims to develop skills, interests and an aspiration within our pupils to do anything and everything to the best of their ability.

You only have to look at our scholarship history to recognise the breadth of pupils’ achievements. Our academic track record is exceptional and on top of academic awards, Edgeborough maintains a 100 per cent pass rate at Common Entrance to many leading senior schools. Additionally, large numbers of scholarships are awarded, recognising excellence in Sport, Music, Drama, Art & DT and all-round ability.

We pride ourselves on having good relationships with senior schools with many experienced staff on hand to give advice on navigating the increasingly complex landscape of entry exams, pre-tests and interviews. We are proud of our ability to identify the right future school for your child and there is nothing more rewarding than to hear of the successes of Old Edgeburians.

“Recognising individual achievements, however ‘normal’ they may seem to others, is a big part of the Edgeborough culture and starts early.” –
The Good Schools Guide, 2019

Above all we believe everyone is good at something and we have a great track record of finding out what that is. Once talents have been identified there is a wealth of opportunities, resources and expertise to nurture and develop them as well as strong culture of sharing in the success and achievements of others.

Always Exploring

6
Whether it be woodland walks crunching through leaves in autumn, throwing snowballs with the Headmaster in winter, or exploring the new life on the trees in spring, pupil learning really does cover every inch of our grounds.

Appreciating the outdoors is a huge part of the ethos at Edgeborough. We are extremely fortunate to be situated within some of the most idyllic and scenic grounds a school could wish for. With 50 acres of rolling Surrey countryside at our disposal, we place an emphasis on outdoor learning and ensuring children spend as much time as possible in the fresh air, no matter the season.

We are a school where the children run back to their classrooms red faced after a game of cricket at breaktime, put on wellies and a coat and head outside when it rains and where pupils play happily across different age groups. Edgeborough really is a very special place.

Climbing or coding, tennis or tap, Edgeborough provides enrichment for children throughout a range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.

Fantastic facilities, a fleet of minibuses and highly skilled teachers allow us to offer the pupils a vast range of opportunities. On top of private music lessons, Edgeborough boasts a LAMDA department, Dance and Tennis Academies. These activities run throughout the school day as well as before and after school. It is our belief that, with so much on offer, every child will find something that they enjoy.

Trips start in the Pre-School and continue right through the School with regular inspirational visits which bring the curriculum to life. Often described as the best times of their lives, residential trips for Years 4 to 8 are exceedingly popular with week long trips to the Isle of Wight, France and Wales for the children in Years 6-8. Children in Years 4 and 5 enjoy shorter trips and tend to stay closer to home.

Some of our most popular include Climbing, Judo, Chess and the Edgeborough Adventurers. Indeed, the range of activities is so extensive that families are able to reserve the weekends for all important family time, rest and relaxation.

Enormously Energising

Sport at Edgeborough is inclusive and competitive. We aim to not only promote an active lifestyle, but also unearth each child’s hidden talent and passion.

Sport starts early here at Edgeborough! Even our Pre-School children benefit from weekly PE lessons with our specialist sports staff and, as the children move up the School, the sports provision grows with them. From Year 3, children play four core sports competitively, with regular matches against local schools on top of their weekly PE lessons. We are lucky to have our own astro pitches and swimming pool, with swimming part of the curriculum from Reception through to Year 8.

We take an inclusive approach to our fixtures, ensuring that everyone is representing the School. It is testament to the coaches that the results in national and local competitions are so impressive. All of this leads to quite brilliant Sports Days, Triathlons and Swimming Galas, all hosted within the School’s grounds.

Regular success at national level in football, hockey and netball is commonplace and complemented by new and exciting sports such as girls’ cricket and climbing. But more important than that; children learn to play as a team, win, lose or draw, all of which we believe are important parts of growing up. Healthy bodies make for healthy minds.

“Teams regularly qualify for the Schools’ National Finals to play alongside the top 24 schools in the country”

Performing Arts are an integral part of life at Edgeborough and a source of pride as children are given yet more opportunities to shine.

We are proud to offer such an extensive variety of performing arts, culminating in a spectacular annual summer Arts Festival celebrating creativity in Music, Dance, Drama, Art and Design.

Even our youngest Pre-School pupils are encouraged to express themselves through music and movement; many opting for extra dance lessons! By Year 2 children will be learning the recorder and violin. Pupils from Years 2 to 8 have at least an an hour of curriculum music a week, with most pupils choosing to take individual instrumental or singing lessons.

Working closely alongside Music, the vibrant Drama department helps develop self-expression, confidence and imagination. All Prep pupils are involved in major drama productions as well as assemblies and drama lessons in our school theatre and dance studio. If not drawn by the spotlight, pupils play an integral part in set management, lighting and sound, giving them an authentic taste of theatre.

Edgeborough is a school of great kindness, fun and community, where pupils and staff have a powerful collective pride in their school, making it a vibrant and special place to work and learn.

We are proud to be ambitious and strive for our children to be the best that they can be. Whilst they will more often than not find success, they will also encounter obstacles along the way. It is in these moments of challenge that we witness true growth and development in our pupils.

The world our young people will be entering into is changing rapidly. The responsibility we hold as we work with parents to support and nurture their children in these formative years, is something we are truly humbled to be trusted with. Through their academic, social and emotional development we take great pride in giving each pupil at Edgeborough secure roots from which to grow in their Prep School years, in their Senior Schools, and in their lives beyond.

It would be our great pleasure to introduce you to our school, pupils and staff - to bring to life what makes Edgeborough so special.
