INVERURIE BOWLING CLUB (Aberdeen & Kincardine Bowling Association) Inverurie Bowling Club is situated in the centre of Inverurie, right in the heart of Aberdeenshire. Although located within walking distance from the bustling centre, our club offers a secluded and peaceful venue for playing bowls.
Established in May 1884, the club has seen many significant changes, the upsizing of the green from four to six rinks, and more recently, the construction of the club house in 1976, which was extended in 1981, and was officially opened by Scottish bowls legend David McGill. From a bowling point of view, we are affiliated to the Counties of Aberdeen and Kincardine Association, the Benachie Bowling Association, the Forbes Hendry Trophy Association, Cromalli Cup Bowling Association. We are also members of two ladies associations, namely The Grampian Ladies Bowling Association, and the Craigie Ladies Bowling Association. The juniors are also members of the Grampian Juniors Bowling Association and the Scottish Young Bowlers Association.
Competitively, the club has fared very well, winning many association competitions, in 2015 we won the prestigious Counties of Aberdeen and Kincardine Association Top 10 competition. This is the third time we have won this competition, but undoubtedly the closest final of all, defeating our close neighbours Rothienorman B.C. in a match that went to the final bowl.
We have also had some success Nationally in recent years, having won the S.B.A.seniors fours in 1990 and the S.B.A. gents pairs in 1999.
We have several of our young bowlers capped for Scotland at various age groups and in 2015 we were immensely proud to see Jason Banks become our first international.
The club was also delighted to see his sister Carla achieve selection to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
Much more about our club can be found out at our website www.inveruriebowlingclub.com with an extensive photo gallery and up to date honours section, all you need to know about the club. Inverurie Bowling Club looks forward to the Inter County Top Ten competition in 2016 where we hope to make some new friends with the members and guests of Tranent B.C. NEWGATE BOWLING CLUB (Angus Bowling Association) The club was instituted in 1886 with the green opening for play on 4th of August, on the site of what had been a large walled garden belonging to Newgate House, which then stood alone in the area known as West Newgate, known to the locals as being in the “Fit ‘O’ the Toon” area and before any of the present adjoining buildings were erected. A two storey pavilion replaced the original clubhouse which was opened on July 18th 1937 by Lord Teviot MP and Provost Sir William Chapel. In appreciation to the ladies who helped raise funds for the improvements, a Ladies Section was formed and consisted of 25 playing members. The Ladies Section now have 40 playing members and are still very much appreciated in fund raising, catering and many other functions at the club. At present the Gents Section have 103 playing members. Further buildings and extensions were added to the club in 1970 and 1980. Over recent years the club has provided seven Angus County Presidents and have always had a strong nucleus of players in the Angus County Team. The club has also enjoyed success in the Angus League and Angus Top Ten competitions qualifying for the National Top Ten finals on three previous occasions in 1991, 1996 and 2005, the most successful being 1991, finishing runners up to the Ratho Club (West Lothian) at Eddlewood Bowling Club, Hamilton. At present the club can boast having one of the finest playing surfaces in the area with credit going to greenkeepers Kevin Stott and Greig Peal who have worked tirelessly to bring the green to its present condition. ARGYLL BOWLING CLUB (Argyll & Bute Bowling Association) Argyll Bowling Club is one of two bowling clubs in Campbeltown which is situated in the picturesque peninsula of Kintyre. The town has a population of approximately 5500. Players have represented the club at International and county level. Iain Mcmillan, who is also an honorary

member, is a previous Junior Internationalist. John Mclachlan and Bobby Mathieson with impressive success at the National Championships. Gavin Mclachlan Jnr and Lee Allen who have both had recent junior international trials. The club has achieved great success in the Scottish Inter - County Top Ten achieving the top award of winners in 1999 and runners up in 2003. Three stalwarts of the club, John Mclachlan, Bobby Mathieson and Iain McMillan are the only three remaining players from the winning 1999 side. The club prides itself in developing young talent and surely boasts one of the youngest teams in the competition with an average age of 33. The side also consists of six previous club champions. After a relatively comfortable progression to the area final of this year we played local rivals Campbeltown Bowling Club in the final. We lost the toss and it was decided to play the match at C.B.C. Although a newly built team we arrived in confident mood to take the victory 5-3. Players for the final were: Singles- Alan Sinclair Pairs- Bobby Mathieson, Kenny Kerr Triples- Lee Allen, John McLachlan, Craig Kerr Fours- Iain McMillan, David Reid, Gavin Mclachlan Jnr, Shaun Grumoli. Overall we are a young, diverse group of players with the desire to win. We look forward to representing the county of Argyll and Bute in this years competition and hopefully achieve the success of 1999 and 2003. TROON PORTLAND BOWLING CLUB (Ayrshire Bowling Association) Troon Portland Bowling Club was established in 1898 and the club celebrated their centenary year in 1998. The annual subscription in 1898 was 10/- and had 41 members. The lady associates were formed in 1951 and the first lady champion was in 1958 and the first gents club champion was in 1944. The senior section was formed in 1981. The junior section was formed in 1985.
In 1955 the club members constructed the wall at the entrance to the club and the clubhouse was extended in 1958/59 which most of the club members did the labouring. In 1958 Troon Portland became members of The Scottish Bowling Federation. Troon Portland flag was adopted in 1965. In 1975 it was decided the green should be changed to a more perfect shape rectangle which has resulted in no corners at 90 degrees. In 1980 the clubhouse was fully modernised and the membership was 120. Also in the 80,s our committee room and locker rooms were built, and three banks around the green were replaced. We currently have a combined membership of 140 and at present have a junior section of which Paul Foster M.B.E. was a member and in 1989 became our youngest club champion aged 16. The Club is very proud to represent the Bon Accord Bowling Association in the Inter County Top Ten in 2016, as it has done on 5 previous occasions. It is a major honour to win the Bon Accord B A Top Ten, the Northern’s record in Association Competitions and Scottish Championships being on par with the best Clubs in the area. There are currently four Northern members playing regularly in the Bon Accord County Team. Over the years the Club has spent a great deal maintaining and improving the Clubhouse and Green resulting in a facility of which we are very proud, and which is regularly selected to host Andrew Hamilton Trophy Matches. The Club website can be found at www.aberdeennorthernbowlingclub.co.uk

CHIRNSIDE BOWLING CLUB (Borders Bowling Association) Chirnside Bowling Club was opened on the 1st July 1925 by Major T.T. McCraw V.D.J.P., councillor for the City of Edinburgh. The first jack was thrown by Mrs Mitchell Innes of Whitehall. The green has one of the most stunning views in Scotland overlooking the Tweed Valley and Cheviot hills. The first year saw a membership of 146 which at present is about 80. Chirnside Bowling Club have won the Berwickshire league 14 times since the league started in 1968 and are the current holders for 2015. Scottish winners are Fours in 1970 – Jimmy Campbell, Bill Douglas, John Gladstone & Bob Virtue. In 1994 Robert Paterson won the Junior Singles. In 2001 David Lugget, Gavin Douglas & Graeme Forsyth won the Triples. In 2006 Louise Hutchison, Barbara Forsyth, Kay Purves and Sheila Douglas won the Fours and regained the Trophy in 2007 to make history being the first four to win two years running. Helen Kenny, Kay Purves and Sheila Douglas won the Two Bowls Triples in 2012. Bob Virtue gained Scottish Caps in 1971, 72, and 73. Robert Paterson gained Junior caps in 1995 and 1996 before moving to senior level from 1997 to 2006. Sheila Douglas played in the first ladies Junior International against England in 1987 and has now been in the Senior Team since 2009. Jamie Mitchell was capped for the Juniors in 2014. Chirnside Bowling Club have won numerous titles in both Ladies and Gents Berwickshire and Border Bowling Association competitions. They are also holders of the Top 5 Trophy played for the first time last year. This is Chirnside Bowling Club’s 3rd time to represent the Border Bowling Association in the Scottish Inter County Top Ten. In 2012 they qualified to the Semi-Final but were beaten by Kirkliston who went on to win. This year is our first away draw and we are looking forward to our visit up north to New Pitsligo. Chirnside is also famous for being the home of Jim Clark who won the World Formula 1 racing championship in 1963 & 1965. NEW PITSLIGO BOWLING CLUB (Buchan Bowling Association) New Pitsligo Bowling Club is set in a small village in the heart of Aberdeenshire and currently has a population of approx. 1000 people. It stands on the eastern slope of Turlundie Hill, 650 feet above sea level and was founded by Sir William Forbes in 1787. We play in District 2 and are 12 miles west of Fraserburgh and 40 miles north of Aberdeen. The village was famous for lacemaking, the peat industry, granite quarries and stonemasons. The club badge reflects this with a peat stack and stonemasons tools being prominent features. When the club was founded (almost 100 years ago) the green was in the centre of the village in the High Street. We moved up the hill to the former tennis court in 1981 which enabled us to increase from a 4 to a 6 rink green and also a new larger clubhouse was built in 1989 to allow 2 rink short carpet indoor bowling to be played during the close season. Sadly our membership is reducing year on year from a high of over 100 in the mid-80s down to around 20 with young blood proving difficult to attract. 2015 has been a particularly successful season in Buchan, winning the league a record equalling 10 times (9 titles since 2000), top ten, ladies and gents pairs, gents singles, gents triples, and fours. Andy Michie also won the City of Aberdeen Senior Singles this year capping an unprecedented season. New Pitsligo has enjoyed a fair amount of success in the national championships having reached Ayr in the fours, triples, pairs and ladies junior singles (Lynne Davies). The best run being semi-finals on three occasions. Numerous players have been capped for our county with stand outs being A. Michie on 89 and D. Alexander on 152. We are looking forward to our second venture into the inter county top ten after our last match (2009) against West Barns which, although losing, was a great bowling and social experience.

PATONS & BALDWINS (Clackmannanshire Bowling Association) The grounds at Patons & Baldwins were donated by Alex and John Forrester and the bowling green was opened in 1926. Patons bowler Dick Cram won the County Singles Championship in the first year of the clubs existence, a great achievement for a newly formed club. This was followed 3 years later when John Duney also won the County Singles. Not a bad start for Patons & Baldwins. Since these wins in the 1920s, Patons & Baldwins bowlers have won numerous County titles including the 4 x 4s trophy 5 times, the league championship, golden age trophy, and the prestigious Balfour trophy on 4 occasions. The club has also been well represented in the National competitions. 2015 has been a fantastic year for the Patons bowlers winning the Balfour trophy, the seniors Top 6 trophy, the County singles with Stuart Dalrymple, the County triples with Ron Goldie, Harry McLaren & Rab Docherty and of course the Top Ten trophy. In the 89 years of Patons & Baldwins existence we have had no fewer than 5 County Presidents, the latest being Ron Boyd in 2006. As with every club in Scotland our membership has dwindled over the years but we still have a nucleus of very competitive players and currently have a few members playing in the Hamilton Trophy team. 2015 was the third time that Patons have won the Top Ten and we are looking forward to playing in the Inter County Trophy. ROCK BOWLING CLUB (Dumbartonshire Bowling Association) The above club was founded in 1884 by the Denny family who owned the shipyard next to Dumbarton Castle. The club itself sits on the bank of the river Clyde. For the second year in succession, the Rock has won the D.B.A. Top Ten making it eight wins. This year the club also won the D.B.A. County Cup, Under 45’s and lost in the Senior Fours Final at an extra end. In the 2015 Andrew Hamilton Trophy series, we had up to six members representing Dumbartonshire West. At local level, the club won the William Denny Shield. Andy McGrandle, Derek Allan, and Kenny Paton have each over 100 caps for the county – a great feat. This year Graham Sloan won the club championship for the 7th time and is still only 27 years of age equalling Andy McGrandles 7 wins. Once again we are delighted to represent Dumbartonshire in the Scottish Inter County Top Ten in 2016. We again look forward to meeting and making new friends in bowling. LOCKERBIE BOWLING CLUB (Dumfriesshire Bowling Association) Lockerbie Bowling Club was founded in 1864, but they did not commence play until the green was opened on the 15th June 1866. The club is an equal opportunities membership which currently has approximately 80 members. The vision of the club is to promote the sport of green bowling in and around the Lockerbie area and assist in the introduction and development of youngsters into the game to play to a high standard in the club, county and Scottish windows. Gents members of the club namely W.Bryce, R.Graham, J.C. Irving, T.R.Jackson, A.Lauder, J.Pender and R.White have represented Scotland in the British Isles Home International Series while being members of the club. The club has had eight Scottish Gents National Championship successes in the singles with J.C. Irving in 1938, 1945, 1950 & 1952. Rinks in 1943 & 1944 courtesy of A.Richardson, J.Bell, O.McKenzie and D.L.Haynes, Pairs in 1977 by T.Beattie & T.Linton and lastly in 2013 in the Junior Singles by G.Robertson. E.McGarr & R.White won the Scottish Dryburgh Pairs in 1983 and juvenile success came to the club in 1992 in the Pairs by

A.Cameron & A.Lauder. The Dumfriesshire County Team which has won the Andrew Hamilton trophy on four occasions has regularly included numerous players from the club. Club members have won the Dumfriesshire individual County Championships on many occasions and the County Top Ten which qualified for this National Championship has been won by Lockerbie eight times. Lockerbie Bowling Club in their 150th anniversary year will participate in the 2016 Scottish Inter County Top Ten with enthusiasm and in the spirit of sportsmanship with an aim of beating our previous best performance in 2009 when we were beaten in the Final. TRANENT BOWLING CLUB (East Lothian Bowling Association) Tranent Bowling Club formed in 1926 and play on the green situated in the confides of Polson Public Park, which was gifted to the town by John Polson, who was the local landowner. A new clubhouse was built by East Lothian Council in 2003, and we pride ourselves now in having good bowling and social facilities which are enjoyed by members and visitors alike. Although being a relatively small club, a lot has been achieved by our members, and it has the privilege of having 5 Scottish champions within its ranks namely - Graham Robertson (singles 1987). John McCrorie (singles 2000), Dee Hoggan (ladies junior singles 2009). Current (2015) Pairs Champions Jim Bonner & Brian Young, also in 2015 Dee Hoggan & John McCrorie were Scottish Mixed Pairs Finalists. Graham Robertson is without doubt the most successful player in the club and was a regular Scottish team from 1985-2001, Graham also brought British, Commonwealth and World honours to the club, his highlight being a Bronze and 2 Golds from the 1992 World Championships Tranent BC has been well represented at the National Championships through the years and are always a force to be reckoned with. Tranent had their best season ever in 2015, winning the Scottish Pairs & Scottish Mixed Pairs Finalists, and within the county of East Lothian in 2015 Tranent have won - indoor Top Club, Div1 League title, Jubilee Cup (top10 qualifier), Div1 Sen League, County cup, also various other East Lothian Titles at present Tranents Membership is 45 made up of a mixture of men ladies and juniors. Tranent’s best performance in the Top Ten was reaching the semi final stage in 1994 and we are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead in 2016, Tranent BC would like to congratulate all qualifying clubs in this years event and wish them all good luck and happy bowling in the tournament. SLATEFORD BOWLING CLUB (Edinburgh Top Ten Bowling Association) Our club badge illustrates the unique location in Edinburgh of Slateford Bowling Club - adjacent to a Victorian Viaduct on the Union Canal, with the Railway viaduct visible through the arches. Historical records show that at a public meeting on 17th February 1899, held in Slateford School, it was intimated that Inglis of Redhall had given the ground, at a nominal rent, for use as a bowling green. Twenty seven of those present joined the new club and Office Bearers and Committee Members were duly elected. The club developed quickly with the pavilion being completed by opening day on 1st July 1899. Development of the clubhouse continued over the years as the purchase of a patchwork of ground around the clubhouse would allow. The first extension was built in 1921, with further alterations in 1928, 1963 and again in 1970. In 1977 the existing function hall was built and in 1987 it was decided to demolish the clubhouse (apart from the function hall) and completely rebuild a new modern lounge as it stands today. The green was enlarged in 1900, re-laid in 1914 and has had a lot of work carried out over the years to ensure it is up to the standard required for modern bowling. There are 120 club members. Robert Marshall has gained international recognition in 1994 - 2005, 2008 & 2009 and again in 2011 - 2013. Although our junior section is currently dormant we have a vibrant over 60’s section. A long standing and very important feature of the club are the many ‘friendlies’ played over the season.

The club has membership in various Associations in and around Edinburgh and over the years has a good track record in the competitions and leagues of those Associations. We’re particularly proud of our record in both the Edinburgh Top Ten and the Scottish Inter County Top ten. We’ve won the Edinburgh Top Ten on six occasions - 1995, 1996, 2004, 2009, 2012 and the current season 2015. We went on to win the Inter County competition in 1996 and 1997 and were runners up in 2013. Travelling the length and breadth of the country to compete in this competition, we’ve enjoyed making new friends and representing Edinburgh to the best of our ability. We look forward to another great Inter County tournament and hope to repeat previous successes both on and off the green! STRATHMIGLO BOWLING CLUB (Fife Bowling Association) The Top Ten players, committee and members of Strathmiglo Bowling Club are proud to represent Fife in the Scottish Inter-Counties Top Ten in 2016. We met with some degree of success in 2011, 2013 and 2015 when we previously contested the inter county stages of this competition. We’ve been to Eddlewood twice; we even had a home game once at what we lovingly call ‘The Home of Bowls’! For Strath B.C., the Scottish Inter-Counties Top Ten is less about winning and losing and is more about good days out, trips on the bus (with raffles, sing songs and other nonsense) to places we’ve never played before and the chance to meet like-minded people who share our passion for good bowls and good company on and off the green. (One of our best days out and best bus trips was the outing to Bogleha’ – and we lost that one!) If you’re lucky enough to host a visiting team from Strathmiglo, prepare for a great day from the moment our 49-seater bus arrives to the minute we have to leave. Strathmiglo Bowling Club wishes the best of good fortune to other clubs and their players who are involved in this Top Ten. ….unless you meet us, of course. BUSBY BOWLING CLUB (Glasgow Bowling Association) Last year, 2015, Busby Bowling Club had its 140th Anniversary. Busby Bowling Club has been situated at The Crescent in Busby since 1875. Prior to this location it comprised of a sunken Bowling Green of two rinks at the Field Works in Field Road, Busby. A Mr Miller who played on this green is believed to have been the instigator in the formation of Busby Bowling. Busby Bowling Club was formed as a joint Stock Company with capital of £400 in £10 shares. A lease was signed and work on the green at The Crescent began. The total cost being £615-18-9d. The green opened on 1 July 1875. Refreshments consisted of two gallons of spirits, four dozen bottles of beer and two dozen bottles of lemonade. In 1974 a Feu Disposition was granted in favour of Busby Bowling Club. The Club was then successful in obtaining a license and the bar was installed. During 1990 it was decided that because the clubhouse was structurally unsound and outdated it was time to demolish it completely and have a new one erected in its place. The old Clubhouse was demolished after closing day in October 1990. The new Clubhouse was opened in July 1991. This Clubhouse now facilitates the many and varied functions which take place throughout the calendar year. Over the past years the Club has been successful in many competitions. Included are Glasgow v Ayrshire Eglinton Jug,. Scottish Triples, Renfrewshire Fours, Glasgow Triples and more recently Glasgow Singles and in 2015 the Glasgow Top Ten.. This will be the first time that Busby Bowling Club has represented Glasgow in the Inter County Top Ten. The Club has also been successful in numerous District Finals resulting in visits to Queens Park and Northfield. Our Ladies have also been successful in winning the East Renfrewshire Womens Bowling Association Singles and Pairs. The Club has, over the years, had the pleasure of holding the Renfrewshire Finals and on two occasions the Glasgow Finals.

HUNTLY BOWLING CLUB (Highland Bowling Association) Huntly Bowling and Tennis Club was established in 1885. Huntly was originally a market town and today still maintains a lovely town square where many local events are held. Huntly has a population of around 5000 and is situated in the North East of Scotland on the edge of Royal Deeside. The Tennis Club was disbanded and the Bowling Club retained the whole premises, building a new clubhouse and carvpark in the late 1950’s. We have a flourishing club with a membership of around 150 full playing members. Ladies were allowed into the club in 1962 and now have a well established ladies section. Our Green is widely used for Highland and Banffshire open competitions. We are proud to have 9 of our members play for the Highland Bowling Association and we perform well in Banffshire and Highland inter Club and Open competitions. Over the years we have had good representation at the Scottish Finals in Ayr. Huntly were delighted to win the Top Ten in 2013 having not won it since 1988 when we won it for Three consecutive years. We are extremely pleased to have retained the Top Ten Tile in 2014 and we will be trying hard to achieve another hat trick of wins. The Final was played on the Moray Green with Huntly being victorious in all four matches. Huntly were delighted to win the Top Ten in 2015, making it a hat trick of wins. This emulated the feat of the Huntly team in 86,87, & 88. Huntly look forward to putting up a strong defence in 2016. OVERTOWN & WATERLOO BOWLING CLUB (Lanarkshire Bowling Association) Overtown & Waterloo Bowling Club is located near Wishaw in North Lanarkshire. The club was established in 1934 on land from the local Miners Welfare Society and the current club building was built by the members in the early 1980’s. The club has had great success in both District and County Championships over many years, with both the Ladies and Gents sections having previously won all the main Lanarkshire Championship titles, some more than once. Many members have also represented Lanarkshire in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy over many years, with several members being multiple AHT winners. We regularly have representatives at the National Finals, with the club having previously won the National Ladies Singles, Pairs, Triples and National Gents Junior Singles, Pairs and Triples (two years running) and most recently won the Gents National Fours competition. Club members have also represented Scotland at International level for the Juniors, Ladies and Gents teams with great success and winning many honours. With a team of some experienced players who have been trying to win this competition for nearly thirty years and some younger players who have only been trying for a few years, the highlight of 2015 was winning the Lanarkshire Top Ten final, the first time our club has won this competition. We are looking forward to our first time in the Inter County Top Ten and look forward to meeting and playing the other Top Ten winning clubs. BONNYRIGG BOWLING CLUB (Midlothian Bowling Association) Founded in 1870 by a group of businessmen, the first home of the club was situated off the High Street near the town centre and was called Bonnyrigg & Broomieknowe Bowling Club. The club moved to its present location in 1894. Bonnyrigg were one of six clubs who joined forces in 1895 to form the Midlothian Bowling Association. The club joined the Scottish Bowling Association when it was formed in 1892 and have represented the District in the National Finals on many occasions. Member Mr David McNally became SBA President in 1936. So far the club have had two full Scottish Internationalists the late Tommy Ferguson who represented Scotland from 1949 – 1955 and the club were delighted when Ronnie Duncan gained his first full cap in 2008.

In 1962 Bonnyrigg were once again one of eight founder clubs of the now very successful Esk Bowling League which is now contested by almost all Midlothian Bowling Association members. In recent years Bonnyrigg has proven to be one of the most successful clubs in Midlothian having won the District Top Ten in 1987, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2014 & 2015, the club are also regular winners of Midlothian County championships. Bonnyrigg have also won Midlothian Top 5 singles competition for four consecutive years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Other successes are Esk Bowling League Division 1 winners 1982, 1983, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014. Esk League Knock out winners 1984, 2002, 2008, 2011 and 2012. Having been defeated in National Top Ten Final on two separate occasions, Bonnyrigg Bowling Club finally managed to reach pinnacle when being crowned National Top Ten Champions in 2009 & this feat was repeated in 2014. Bonnyrigg Bowling Club are also regular qualifiers for National Finals at Ayr Northfield. The year 2015 was another very successful year for the club, as well as representatives at National Finals we were also winners of county Top Ten for third year in succession. Member Ronnie Duncan is a current outdoor Internationalist and is member of Bowls Scotland High Performance Squad from which Scotland Team for forthcoming Commonwealth Games & World Championships will be selected. FORTROSE AND ROSEMARKIE BOWLING CLUB (Northern Counties Bowling Association) The bowling club is to be found close to the historic centre of the town and former burgh of Fortrose in the Scottish Highlands. The town is situated on the south east shore of the Black Isle, overlooking the Moray Firth, about 8 miles north east of Inverness. It is known for its ruined 13th century cathedral and as the home of the Brahan Seer. The narrows off the nearby Chanonry Point are famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins colony. The club was founded in 1925 and immediately joined the Northern Bowling League where it has had remarkable success winning the league title on numerous occasions, including in 2015 for the seventh time since 2006. The late Jimmy Lumsden, an honorary member of the club, was involved in the formation of the Northern Counties Bowling Association. He was a member of the original team and became the fourth President in the 1988 season. This was followed by a successful three year term as team manager with the team finishing second in the section on each occasion. We currently have three of our members on the Northern Counties committee: 2013 President Alan Ogilvie; Treasurer Bill Jessiman; and Team Manager Mike Ross. The club has produced many excellent bowlers in its time. Twelve of the 2015 Top Ten squad have played for the Northern Counties BA Andrew Hamilton Trophy team, with ten of them playing in the 2015 campaign. This includes Raymond Williamson who is now the longest serving player in that team with 30 consecutive seasons under his belt. Over the years the club has achieved considerable success at local level and has players regularly qualifying for the Scottish finals and winning Northern Counties Championship titles. This includes Kyle Ross in the Scottish Junior Singles in 2015 when he narrowly lost in the quarter final to the eventual winner. Kyle is also the 2015 Counties Singles champion and six other members won the Pairs and Fours titles on the same day. 2015 was the third successive year Fortrose and Rosemarkie Bowling Club has won the Northern Counties Top Ten Trophy. We are again delighted and honoured to be representing the Northern Counties in this prestigious tournament. The players and members look forward to the challenge ahead in 2016, which begins with Troon Portland at Fortrose. BANKFOOT BOWLING CLUB (Perthshire Bowling Association) The first known 2 rink green in Bankfoot existed before the green we know today. It was situated just off Main Street and its outline can still be seen in the garden in one of the homes to the west of the street close to the old post office. Unfortunately little is known of when it was laid or indeed when it stopped being used in favour of the green that we now play on. It is believed that the present green opened in 1927 with 4 rinks and an additional 2 rinks being added in 1962.

One of the well known families in the club included J A Dick who was president of the Perthshire Bowling Association in 1965, his wife Gerri and their son Alistair who is our present green keeper. Our most famous member was an Englishman Mr Jimmy Rawlinson a Perthshire president and an international bowler on two occasions who despite his talent was always encouraging and passing on his skills to others. We are grateful to Jimmy for donating many of his medals to the club prior to his death. The club has won Perth & District Bowling league on numerous occasions as well as the Perthshire Campbell Trophy in 2001. We also a have members who play regularly in the County Team and in the Senior County Team. This is our first venture into the Scottish Side of the Inter County Top Ten competition and are looking forward to competing and meeting new friends and can assure them all of a warm welcome at the Bankfoot Bowling Club. CALEDONIA BOWLING CLUB (Renfrewshire Bowling Association) Caledonia Bowling Club was instituted in 1873 and throughout our history have enjoyed success at Scottish, County and District levels. This is our fifth venture in the Scottish Inter County Top Ten Association Tournament. In our first attempt in 1994, we were drawn away to Inverness, Dalbeatie, House of David and then to Colinton where we lost to Abbeyview in the Final. Those members who took part have since become known as founder members of the “1,000 Mile Club”. Caledonia’s success at local level is enviable, having won the Paisley & District Bowling League Championship 9 times in the last 27 years. In 2012, we had a remarkable year, winning the P&D League, Reserve League, 5 P&D Cup Competitions and 2 Renfrewshire Bowling Association Trophies. In 2015, we successfully retained both the Paisley & District League Championship and Renfrewshire Bowling Association Top Ten Championship. Our singles champion, John Myles, went on to become the Paisley & District Champion of Champions. Over the years, Caledonia has had seven Presidents of Renfrewshire Bowling Association, has won the County Cup nine times and the Inter County Cup on four occasions. We currently have nine members playing for the County team and in the past have had T. Pattison (Team Captain) and W. Edmiston, both making over 100 appearances. Caledonia has also had success in the Scottish Bowling Association competitions with William Blue winning the singles competition in 1926 and Ian McCowan playing for the national team in 1978. Despite losing narrowly to Strathmiglo Bowling Club in the 2014 Scottish Inter County Top Ten, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting our visitors from Fife. Our directors and members look forward to extending a very warm welcome to Busby in this year’s competition. DALBEATTIE BOWLING CLUB (Stewartry Bowling Association) Dalbeattie Bowling Club was established in 1860 and celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2010 with a celebration day in the clubhouse. The jack on that occasion was thrown by Mrs Betty Ireland (see our honours list) and Mr Kevin Harper (see our honours list). A complete history of the club was printed for the occasion by a local writer and made for a very interesting booklet. The President for the season 2016 is Mr Ian Cochrane and the club telephone number is 01556 610160 and the secretaries phone number is 01387 760210. Honours List;Mrs B Ireland 1974 Scottish Ladies Singles Champion Mrs B Ireland 1975-1976-1977 British Isles Singles International Champion Kevin Harper 1994-1995-1996-1997-1998-1999 Scottish Junior Internationalist

Stuart Gibson 1995-1996 Scottish Junior Internationalist. Kevin Harper 200 Scottish Internationalist. We look forward to our first game against Dumbartonshire (Rock) at Dalbeattie on 15th may 2016. GRAHAMSTON BOWLING CLUB (Stirling County Bowling Association) Grahamston Bowling Club was founded in 1877. The club was built at a time when Falkirk was at the forefront of the iron industry and Grahamston B.C. was situated right at the heart of 4 foundries, yet from all accounts, it would appear that the ordinary foundry workers were not the first members. It would seem that the sport of bowling was primarily played by the wealthier gentlemen of the district. Even into the early 1900’s Grahamston’ members included Captain A. Kennard, Managing Director of Falkirk Iron Company, The Headmaster from Carmuirs School, The Registrar for the burgh of Falkirk, the Burgh Fiscal and a certain Mr Liddell who was not only the owner of The Burns Bar and The Empire bar, he was also the President of Falkirk Football Club when the team won the Scottish Cup in 1912-1913. It was because of his influence and position within Falkirk Football Club that Grahamston Bowling Club also had a football team which played at Brockville Park against Falkirk Bowling Club from 1906 – 1908. Mr John Carswell owner of a butchers business in Grahams Road was President of Grahamston B.C., president of Stirling County in 1908 and a player in the football team too. Mr Carswell was the Grandfather of our Mr Stewart Carswell a current club member and multiple club champion Over the years, Grahamston B.C. has won many trophies, The Mitchell, The Kennard, The Doak etc., and have been represented at the Scottish finals at Ayr many times too. Grahamston also has its fair share of County players, especially among the younger members and even although like many bowling clubs today its membership is dwindling, the standard of bowling has not waned, which is why we are here today. Grahamston B.C. has also had a Ladies Section since the mid 1920’s and it is still going strong. In recent years, one of our young ladies was initially a junior Scottish Internationalist and more recently was called up to the senior Scottish Team. All in all, Grahamston B.C. has had and continues to have a loyal membership who love their bowling and their club, as can be seen by the number of supporters who attend the many competitions that our teams participate in. LOCHGELLY BOWLING CLUB (West Fife Bowling Association) Lochgelly Bowling Club was formally established on 9th June, 1897, succeeding an earlier Club founded in 1873. While little record of these earlier years survives it is of note that Lochgelly was one of eight clubs that founded the Fife Bowling Association on 4th August, 1879. Sometimes seen as a small town club there have been a number of memorable achievements in the years since our inception. Nine members have had the honour of representing their Country at International level, the most recent being James McGuire and James Gilruth, while Provost John Wilson was appointed President of the Scottish Bowls Association in 1940. The Club have won the 3 Counties Trophy on 4 occasions but arguably their greatest achievement was 1959 – 60 when they won the Scottish Rink competition and the same rink went on to win the British Isles Championship. The Club have also won numerous County titles, and have represented the Club in Scottish Bowling Association Championships, both at Queens Park and Northfield. The west Fife Top Ten Trophy has been won on 8 occasions – 1990, 1994, 2001/2, 2004, 2007/8 and again in 2015. NEWBRIDGE BOWLING CLUB (West Lothian Bowling Association) Situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh founded in 1907 as local village club. The clubs major successes include Scottish Triples success in 1992. Also Scottish and British Isles pairs success in 1995/1996. The club has been represented by players at county Level and international level both junior and senior respectively. Newbridge have had two successes in the top ten at county level the first coming back in 2001. 4 of the current top ten team played in that team. The second title triumph came in 2015 with a hard fought 6-2 victory over former top ten champions Bathgate.

The green is situated on the east side of Stranraer (about five minutes walk from the town centre) on land gifted by Lord Stair and which at the time would be on the edge of the town. For a relatively small county with 17 clubs, our club has the largest membership with around 80 members. Stranraer has had much success on the national scene. The Lanarkshire and District Bowling Leagues Association was formed in 1965 and became such a huge success story that 2016 moves us beyond our landmark Golden Anniversary Celebrations and into our 51st year. The stated aims of The Association as laid down in Para 2 of our Constitution are, “The object is to promote, foster, and safeguard the team game of bowls”; and in Para 3, “To maintain good relations with all clubs and to engender a fraternal feeling amongst the bowlers of Lanarkshire”. It is genuinely felt and believed Community Wide that some 51 years down the line the 76 constituent clubs, their memberships, and the Directors of The Lanarkshire and District Leagues have delivered the goods in truly magnificent style. Lanarkshire Bowlers have down the years woven a tapestry of success that gives us a rich heritage, is colourful and inspirational, strong in tradition and folklore, and celebrated by a treasure chest full of title winning achievements. “We enter 2016 with 18 Leagues embracing some 140 teams and with sponsorship playing a vital role in our sport this opportunity is taken to express our thanks to ‘Billy Young Family Butchers’, ‘Toner Catering’, and ‘DGG Transport and Distribution’- the words of Hon. BURNBANK (HAMILTON) - THE 2015 CHAMPIONS FROM LANARKSHIRE

Burnbank - Hamilton - earned themselves “The Pride Of Lanarkshire” accolade with the clubs 4th adventure in The Cooperative Funeralcare sponsored Scottish Inter County Top Ten Championship resulting in them capturing the coveted 2015 national crown. It was a magnificent and significant achievement in the 34th year of the high prestige event, and hailed by a Lanarkshire support whose only previous title celebrations were triggered by the success of Lesmahagow in 1984. The reaction of the team and crowd was particularly raucous and gloriously acclaimed as the Final Days play was hosted at bi-annual venue Eddlewood BC in Hamilton so Burnbank were bringing excitement and thrilling pleasure to an enthralled support. The final was in itself an anti-climax in that Burnbank stormed to a commanding 6-2 win over Kirkconnel of Dumfriesshire having been inspired by spearhead figure Michael Docherty powering to a 21-5 win in the Singles. The high profile partnership of indoor caps Gerry Sullivan and Jim McCann took no prisoners as they romped to a 26-5 win in the Pairs while the rink of Mark McCourt, Jackie O’Neill, Sandy Hazelting, and Scott Fair dominated the Fours to win 22-14. Kirkconnel did have the measure of their opposition in the Triples with Ryan Clark, Ian Clark, and Alistair Monteith transforming an 8-2 deficit into a good 19-11 win over Hugh Letham, Thomas Kerr, and Brian Davies. Both semi finals were real corkers however with last end drama in the Pairs tipping the scales for Burnbank in their clash with Bellsburn (Linlithgow) of West Lothian. Burnbank had recovered from 12-6 down to cross 16-12 – with the help of a super six - but then trailed 17-16 before carding a double to snatch an 18-17 win over Sam Gray and Craig Yeaman. The result was a match-winner because it tied the result at 4-4 on points allowing Burnbank to reach the final with a superior shot margin of 9 shots. Other scores being Singles, 19-21; Triples, 22-7; Fours, 11-16. Kirkconnel beat Fife champions Strathmiglo, 6-2, with the game changing result delivered by Lee Marshall finishing 3, 4, 3 to steal a 21-17 win over a stunned Alan Pearson in the Singles. Other scores, Pairs, 18-13; Triples, 15-14; Fours, 7-23. “Jack High” has been supporting Bowling for over 25 years by providing excellent Insurance cover to Indoor, Outdoor & Multi-Sports Clubs together with Associations, UK wide. “Winter & Co” provide to our Scheme Members: • Dedicated Staff Contact • Very Competitive Premiums • Efficient and quick claims handling • No hidden charges • Complimentary Score-cards/Competition Sheets CONTACT US NOW FOR YOUR CLUB QUOTATION, YOUR COMMITTEE MEMBERS WILL BE DELIGHTED Quote: JHS 2012
