As restrictions ease, activity groups will start up again and we will be holding our monthly meetings at 2.15pm on the first Thursday of the month. Beginning on 1st July at the Meridian Centre, Richard Ratcliffe will entertain with comedy and singing. On 5th August we meet at Mencap Hall, Newhaven for a talk on the RNLI. On 2nd September we meet at the Meridian Centre for a talk about Edith Cavell. Our outings have been arranged to Leonardslee Gardens on 6th July, Brighton Pavilion and cream tea on 22nd July. Our summer lunch is at the Denton Island Bowls Club on 11th August and on August 25th we have a day out in Arundel. We are pleased to announce that, subject to any changes in the Covid situation, the Newhaven Museum, located at Paradise Park, will re-open on Tuesday 29th June 2021. Opening hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 11.00am to 4.00pm until the end of October. We also plan to re-commence our series of talks at the Hillcrest Centre on 6th October, 7.00 for 7.30pm, with our AGM and a presentation from Ian Everest on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Newhaven Cemetery War Graves. The society will again be participating in ArtWave and Heritage Open Days in September. NEWHAVEN LIBRARY
All East Sussex libraries have reopened and residents can once again borrow, return and reserve items. Computers are available to pre-book, and study space and Job Pods for online job interviews are available at selected libraries. The libraries are Covid-secure with new layouts to encourage social distancing, limited visitor numbers, and increased cleaning. Books will be quarantined for 72 hours upon return and for the time being newspapers will only be available online. Library events have not yet resumed but will be returning over the coming months.
