T
hey say that Bywell is a hard ground and there is no denying that it poses a challenge to even the very best trap shooters. So to watch so many perfect scores and PBs come in at the Clay Shooting DTL Classic
was wonderful. With the DTL and DR prelims, the pool shoots, the English and British Open Single Barrel, the Bywell 400 and the Classic itself being run seamlessly over the August Bank Holiday weekend, it was a true celebration of Trap shooting, not to mention a real test of stamina. I hope you managed to catch
some of the great coverage from WeShoot – I was glued to the Facebook videos each evening in my hotel room, even though I had watched it first-hand. I ran out of room writing about all the wonderful things that happened at the Classic and talking to Paul Turner about his hurricane of a performance. I could have filled twice as much space, but we also had to squeeze in all the other championships this month, and there have been so many of them, we just couldn’t fit everything in. Between Martin Myers’ success at the British Open Sporting at West Midlands, Megan Jones becoming the youngest ever British Open English Skeet Champion, Josh Bridges showing the Seniors how it’s done at the Sporting Home International, and super-mum Abbey Ling becoming the Ladies European UT Champion, it really is an action-packed issue. While we’ve been working on this month’s Clay Shooting we’ve been eagerly watching the live ISSF coverage of the World Championships in Moscow. With the Championships coming to a close as we go to print, watch out next month for our full report on James Dedman and Ed Ling’s medal-winning performances. Plus, the day after writing this, I’ll be heading over to Wales for the Gamebore Grand Prix. There’s no rest
