The Borough of Broxbourne is celebrating its first ever Youth Week, from Monday 23 February – Sunday 1 March 2015, which will culminate in the Broxbourne Youth Awards. The awards will take place on the evening of Saturday 28 February at Broxbourne Civic Hall. The awards are a celebration of the achievements of young people and those working to provide services for young people in Broxbourne.

Sports Satellite Clubs By 2017, Sport England aims to offer every secondary school the opportunity to host a satellite community sports club on its site, with a direct link to a local sports club within the area. The objective is to help the local club to increase the number of 14 - 25 year olds taking part in sport for at least 30 minutes per week, as well as reduce the number of young people dropping out of sport. Current Satellite Club provision in the Borough of Broxbourne is as follows:

Affinity Gymnastics Club is running low cost GymFit sessions to all girls aged 11 - 25 years. This 6 week course aims to get females into paddle sport in a relaxed atmosphere.

Sessions will be based on the lake and offer the opportunity to try the sport for the first time. Week 6 will be a white water session on the legacy course. Each participant will receive a record of the skills they’ve learned at Level 1. Level 1 is designed for people with no previous experience of paddle sports and includes the key skills needed to progress in the sport. We teach the traditional art of Ju-Jitsu. This encompasses all forms of striking and throwing techniques. Participants will also learn how to restrain an opponent by applying locks to various parts of the body whilst standing or on the ground. Weapons’ training is also provided to higher grades. When the weather is fine you know it’s the time For messin’ about on the river. However, the river is not easily accessible to everyone, and that is where CanalAbility come in. The CanalAbility is a registered charity established in 1989 to provide affordable opportunities for anyone with a disability or their carers, charities and community groups to experience the joy of cruising the inland waterways. Our boats are based at our mooring on the River Stort in Harlow, which is easily accessed by road or rail. For day trips we offer a choice of two boats, that provide state of the art facilities for up to 12 people. Our two short break and holiday boats are equipped for overnight stays, allowing people to venture further afield.

The Old British School Trust The Old British School Trust of Cheshunt has funds available to help young people who are in need of financial assistance and who are resident in the ‘Ancient Parish of Cheshunt.’ The Old British School Trust is an officially registered educational charity. Each year, the Trust gives help to young people who are undertaking educational or vocational study and who are in need of financial help. Successful applicants receive a small grant towards the cost of, for example, books or equipment, musical instruments or ‘optional extras’ such as a field trip or visit. The course or study can be undertaken at school, college, university or through membership of a youth group or other organisation such as Raleigh International. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be under the age of 25 and be resident in Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Turnford or Goffs Oak. Mission Statement

Objective To advance education for the public benefit by the provision of educational services, extra-curricular activities, extended services for the benefit of the families and communities of Cheshunt and the surrounding area and the provision of family support. ChExs is a charitable group that works closely with statutory, voluntary and community settings including primary, secondary and special schools, children’s centres, District and County Councils, housing associations, CVS and residents associations and have forged support and in depth partnerships with corporate companies. These collaborative networks enable ChExs to support families and community projects through complimenting and delivering key

services for the benefit of everyone within the community.

HABS (Hoddesdon and Broxbourne Settings)

Services and activities for families and the local community include parenting support, integrated practice for children and young people ensuring early intervention, adult and family learning platforms, enrichment programmes for children and young people to develop key skills linked to attainment, achievement and personal development and support local families and community groups to meet their specific needs and requirements. ChExs works holistically aiming to meet the needs of all within our area.

HABS is a partnership offering advice, direct family support and parenting information cafes in the area of Wormley, Broxbourne and Hoddesdon covering our 19 settings.

ChExs has a special relationship with Schools and Children Centres. If you would like any more information have any suggestions or would like to be involved in any way please contact us.
