This is one of my favourite Vogue shoots from 1996. Shot by Nick Knight and featuring (I am sure) Jodie Kidd, these black and white misty shots are really reminiscent of Sam Haskins 1960’s photography.

I didn’t really get into Sam Haskins’ photography until one of his images appeared on The Last Shadow Puppet’s album, The Age of the Understatement. I then managed to get hold of the director’s cut of Cowboy Kate and other stories, and just fell in love with his work.

Whereas some nudes can be quite graphic, Haskins’ images have a real gentleness about them, which makes them seem even more feminine.

The pictures from Cowboy Kate are quite well known and I’m sure Kate Moss did a recreation of some of the gunbelt shots for Vogue, at some point, but I can’t find any images anywhere – perhaps I dreamt it?
