Peebles' Historic Night Lifts Blue Jays Past Swarthmore on Senior Day, 71-57

Sophomore Drains 10 Threes to Help Hopkins Secure Top Seed in Centennial Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team used an all-time performance by Elisabeth Peebles to top Swarthmore on their Senior Day Saturday afternoon, with the sophomore's program-record 10 triples leading the Blue Jays to the 71-57 win. Hopkins' 23 wins and 19 conference wins are both program records for the most in the regular season, with its winning percentage of .950 serving as the second-best mark in program history.

Peebles was the difference in Saturday's contest, scoring a career-best 32 points on 11-22 shooting from the field and an absurd 10-19 from 3-point territory, setting a new program-best mark in both makes and attempts from deep. She was joined in double figures by Kendall Dunham (11) and Jadyn Murray (10), with the junior center also grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds to secure her first double-double of the season, while Greta Miller tacked on nine rebounds and a career-best 10 assists to pair with her four points in another all-around performance.

The Blue Jays (23-2, 19-1 Centennial) started their four graduating members as a part of their Senior Day celebration, and it was Abby St. Onge making the most of her minutes. The senior opened the scoring in Saturday's game with her second career 3-pointer, following it up with a layup on the ensuing possession to put Hopkins in front 5-0. The Garnet (12-13, 10-10 Centennial) used an 8-3 burst to level the score at eight and again at 10 before Kara Milliken got herself on the board with another lay-in to put the Jays in front 12-10 at the first break.

After Swarthmore opened the second with a triple, Peebles responded with one of her own to retake the lead at 15-13. A Dunham deep ball gave the Hopkins its largest lead to that point of four before the Garnet went on a 9-2 run to go in front 28-25. As the quarter started for the Blue Jays, however, so it ended, with Peebles' fourth three of the night knotting the score at 28 going into halftime.

Renewed out of the break, Dunham and Peebles combined to go on a 10-0 run to shoot Hopkins up 38-28 three minutes into the third. Swarthmore chipped away at the lead once again, getting as close as two with two to go before another Peebles three followed by a Garnet jumper made it a 49-46 heading into the fourth.

The Blue Jays put the game to rest early in Saturday's final quarter, opening the frame on an 11-0 run to balloon their lead to 60-46. With the advantage still at 10 with just over two minutes to go, Peebles struck again, hitting back-to-back threes — her record-breaking ninth and 10th of the night — to set a new career-high of 32 points before Swarthmore scored on their final possession of the afternoon to seal the 71-57 victory.

With Hopkins sharing the regular-season title with Gettysburg, the Blue Jays won a coin toss to earn the right to be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament, marking the second straight year Hopkins will host. The Blue Jays will face off against the highest remaining seed in the semifinals Friday, Feb. 22.

Inside the Box Score – Johns Hopkins
With her 32-point outing, Peebles is the first Blue Jays to score at least 30 points since Lillian Scott scored 37 in the 2016-17 season. Her 32 points are the second-most in a single game in the Centennial Conference this season.
Peebles' 10 made 3-pointers and 19 attempts are the most in program history and rank first and second in Centennial Conference history respectively.
Miller's 10 assists are a career-high, as the junior is the first Hopkins player to hit double figures in helpers since Scarlett McCracken in the 2011-12 season.
Jadyn Murray's 10-point, 10-rebound effort gives the junior her first collegiate double-double.
With the win the Blue Jays wrap up the 2023-24 regular season 11-0 at home
