North Midlands Cross Country – Corby

High Peak’s young athletes put in top performances at the North Midlands Cross country league race in Corby.

On Saturday 11th November a small but very keen band of HPAC junior runners travelled over 100 miles to Glebe Park in Corby for the second race in the North Midlands Cross country league series. However, it was well worth the journey! The conditions were perfect for cross country running, and there was success for HPAC in the very first race of the day, with Alice Tolley following up her win in the first race of the series in October by again winning the 2km under 11 girls race in a time of 8 minutes 32 seconds, 22 seconds ahead of the second placed girl.

Next up the under 11 boys 2km race, and there was a good HPAC turnout for this, with George Tweedie

Alice Tolley, Elspeth Morgan, Xavier Morgan, Sam McGill, George Tweedie & Hamish Tweedie.

coming in as first HPAC athlete in 15th place (8 mins, 58 seconds), followed closely by Xavier Morgan showing great finishing speed to come in 18th. Josh Edlin  put in a a strong and well planned run to come in 25th, followed by Hamish Tweedie (29th), and  our consistent performer Samuel McGill (31st).  Hamish is the younger brother of George and is fast improving! The HPAC under 11 boys are a strong unit, and we really do have a lot of exciting talent in this age group.

In the under 13 boys race over an undulating 3km, William Stanway of HPAC came a very credible 10th in a high quality field, and is showing he is a quick learner in his first season of cross country. Elspeth Morgan ran for HPAC in the under 15 girls race also over the same 3km course, and showed true grit up against a very strong field to come in 30th.
