It all started off on Tuesday night with the Open Night. Out came the Bowlsparc equipment and I was trying to work out how best to use it....thinking cap on. I set up over two rinks and had 6 targets on each one. Really want to use the kit and get people into the sport. Once Ian and John turned up we tweaked it over a number of ends. With a mixture of targets to land on and a number of gates to try and get through; it worked really well. But how to make it even better...Well I stole an idea from playing pool. Have you ever played killer?? Get 3 lives and if you miss you loose one. Well this works in reverse. You have to land on a target or get through one of the gates and that's one of your 3 gone. The first one out is the winner. Simple but actually a real challenge and plus you are aiming at different lengths each time. Its a good way to get your eye in. So over the next few Tuesday nights we'll need to perfect it a bit, but i think we are onto something!
On Saturday we hosted Giffnock Bowling Club. Another fine day and the green is starting to run really well. Considering how bad last summer was the green is in really good nick. So with the rinks drawn, Hampden set about recording a grand victory and beating Giffnock 57 to 41 shots. Happy days. Fortunately there was only one rink of four that lost. My team were beaten 19 to 9 but hey ho somebody had to ensure that some of the travelling players got something out of the day :-)
Also the Club championships have now started. There are a number of Gents and Ladies cups up for grabs. The most sought after is the Club Championship. The ties are starting to get played, which is great to see. Lets see if last year's Club Champion can be toppled from the top of the club ladder......
Cheers
