Visiting side Romily CC play Marsa for the game and the seriesThe Marsa team are having a well earned rest this weekend after playing sixteen games against seven touring teams in just five weeks. A better win ratio would have been nicer, with the home side only winning five games..

This coming Thursday the Marsa team will be back in action with the return of Ampthill Town C.C who are in Malta for their sixth tour, this time to play in a two game series. Following on from that their will be a further eight touring teams till the end of June.

This year to date Nowell Khosla has scored the most runs against touring teams with 330 runs, while Niraj Khanna scored 206. In the bowling department Kevin Krishna has been the most successful with ten wickets while Joy Ghoseroy and Sumair Khan have taken nine each. John Grima has been fantastic behind the stumps taking ten stumpings and a catch.

Last Tuesday was the last of those games against Romiley C.C. The home team were looking for a win to tie the series.

Romiley won the toss and elected to bat first in the twenty over encounter. The Marsa team bowled well and kept them down to 130 runs. Tom Rolph top scored with thirty three runs. Rob Booker (twenty one runs), James Badrock (seventeen runs) and Ben Allcock (sixteen runs) were the other main scorers.

For the home team a marvellous opening spell from Waseem Abbas had only seven runs taken from it, unfortunately no wickets for Waseem. Mike Caruana took two wickets while Justin Brooke, Patrick Brooke and Sid Anand took a wicket each.

The Marsa team tried hard and struggled to be all out for 117 runs. After losing three wickets within eight overs with only thirty four runs it was always going to be a struggle. Bikram Arora (thirty six runs) and John Grima (twenty one runs) provided some hope putting on a sixty five run partnership.

Extras were twenty one and Nowell Khosla made sixteen as being the high scorers for the team. For Romiley B. Flatley wasa the main wicket taker with three, Paul Garner took two while Ed Mallinson and S. Milne took one each.

The visitors win the game and the series.

The Cricket Association congratulated the local umpires Alan Swift and Les White for umpiring during many of the above mentioned games, “well done to the both of you.”

On Saturday the Sunoco Cricket Academy will be from 9.00am till 10.30am before the second game against Ampthill Town.
