PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 12th-ranked Tufts University Women's Squash team traveled to Brown University Saturday afternoon where they were handed a 7-2 loss by the 17th-ranked Bears.
The Jumbos have only one other loss this season to top-ranked Harvard University, and are now 5-2 on the season. The Bears improve to 3-3 overall.
Junior Isa Schneider in the sixth position and senior captain Megan Chen in the ninth slot would secure the only match victories for the Jumbos in competitive five set battles. Schneider defeated Brown's Sara Syed with scores of 5-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8. After dropping the first two sets 9-11 and 6-11, Chen fought her way back to win 11-7, 11-7, and 11-8.
In one of the closest matches of the afternoon, freshman Riddhi Joshi (pictured) fell to Brown's Lily Seckendorf in the first position. In a fiercely fought contest every set would be determined by only two points with Seckendorf ultimately pulling off the four set win (10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9). In other competitive match-ups, freshmen Nieve Monderer in the fifth slot and Ellie Ackerman in the eight position were narrowly defeated in five sets. Monderer fell to Brown's Abigail Dichter 2-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 and Ackerman posted scores of 10-12, 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, 4-11. Freshman Aleezah Burhan, sophomores Caroline Chin and Sanjana Vissapragada and senior captain Diya Sanghi were all defeated in three sets, securing the victory for Brown.
