The NYU Equestrian Team competes as part of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in Zone 2, Region 4. The IHSA was founded to provide college riders of all skill levels with the opportunity to compete individually and as teams at regional, zone, and national levels. Riders are judged for hunt seat equitation.
In past years, they have been regional champions, competed as a team at zones, and sent riders to Nationals. Teams in their region include: Adelphi University, Columbia University, Hofstra University, Long Island University- C.W. Post College, Molloy College, Princeton University, St. Joseph's College (NY), Stony Brook University, and Suffolk County Community College.
Shows take place on Sunday throughout the fall and spring semester. The team competes in seven to ten shows each academic year. Riders should expect to spend the majority of their Sundays at shows. Riders also take one lesson per week during the practice times listed below.
Prospective riders will submit an interest form and will be asked to submit video submissions of them riding in place of in-person tryouts. The NYU Equestrian Club is highly competitive. Approval by the Head Coach is required in order to join. Please contact the club president for more information.
