Badminton Wins 2023 Northern Conference Championship

NYU Badminton are once again Eastern Collegiate Badminton Northern Conference Champions!

The rebounding club capitalized off a second place finish in 2022 by returning and claiming the top spot for the Fall championship at the Northern Conference Championships in Westbourough, Massachusets.

The Eastern Collegiate Badminton Championships, held on November 4-5, is a sector of USA Badminton to determine top teams across the Eastern regions of the United States, featured a record 54 schools competing in four conferences, within three divisions. NYU competed at the Division I level along with Boston University, Columbia University, Cornell University, New England University, and Stony Brook University.

NYU Badminton played Stony Brook University in the first round winning emphatically, 9-0. In the second round, they faced Columbia University and earned another strong victory, 8-1.

The Violets met Boston University in the final round. After eight tight matches, the game was tied at 4-4, leaving a deciding match for it all. After losing the first set 23-21 in the final match, Bausch Ko and Prashi Joshi defeated Yushu Tong and Siqi Yang by sweeping the next two sets, 21-11, and 21-16, cementing the victory for NYU.

"The team really came together this weekend to fight for this win. Everyone did their part and supported each other, and we couldn't be prouder," said team co-captain Betty Hou. "Boston University has always been one of the strongest teams and we knew going into the final that it was anyone's game. We used that as motivation to go out and give it our all every match, and it was rewarding to come out on top that day."

Andy Ng, the team's other captain expressed the family-like culture of the resurging club. "Whether on or off the court every single member of the team was invested in supporting the team's spirit and matches, proudly representing NYU" said Ng. "Rather than just a team we were more like a family, taking on the pressure and challenges together."

NYU Badminton looks to continue their season in Spring 2024 with a focus on the Spring Championships.
