“Secret Berkshire” The Hollies and the North Wessex Downs

This beautiful undulating walk in a secret corner of the Berkshire hills takes us along the Ridgeway trail from Goring Gap, Starting at the pretty village of Goring the only gap in the range of hills that are made up of the Chilterns in east and the Wessex downs in the west. This gap allows the River Thames to pass through on its journey to the sea we quickly climbing out of the Thames Valley to cross the spectacular Streatley Common.
The trail passes through the pretty village of Aldworth where Alfred defeated the Danes, before descending through meadows and woodland to Stitches green.
A steep ascent leads us to the hollies and descends to the pretty village of Streatley where we cross the River Thames,Home to many pubs you are welcome to join us for a drink before your journey home.

GRADE: Intermediate/ hard, 12m 19km 450m ascent. 5hrs 40 min hiking on good paths with some steep hills.

MEETING TIME: 10:10 at Goring and Streatley Station.

TRAINS: There are trains from London Paddington Station 08.57 train arriving at Goring and Streatley Station 10:05 journey time 1hr 8 mins.
