OXFORD, Ala. | The Tuskegee University cross country teams kicked off the 2015 season at the Strut's Season Opener hosted by Jacksonville State University at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Area.
On the women's side Tuskegee finished eighth as a team with 241 points, finishing ahead of SIAC foes Miles and Stillman.
Individually,
Jade Finch led the way with a time of 19:46.84; followed by teammate
Wamika Kemp in a time of 20:36.91.
Evelyn Williams finished just two spots behind Kemp with a time of 20:56.63. Not to be outdone,
Ariel Watson finished just two spots behind Williams with a time of 21:01.97.
Rounding out the runners for Tuskegee in the opening meet of the season were
Chante' Warner (21:57.57), Cierra Wilson (23:13.27) and
Sacha Bowen (24:44.65) on the 4k course.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, Tuskegee finished fifth in the White Division (Division II) with 126 total points. The Golden Tigers finished ahead of SIAC foes Stillman (159 points) and Miles (179 points).
The top finisher for Tuskegee was
Maurice McGee, who finished 93rd overall in the entire Division I and II field with a time of 18:35.59. He was followed by teammate
Louis Manley with a time of 18:59.27.
A trio of Golden Tigers finished together in a pack with
David Dixon crossing in a time of 20:52.76, Gregory Coleman finished with a time of 21:20.49 and
Victor Hinton in a time of 21:49.40.
Mekal Smith rounded out the runners for Tuskegee with a time of 24.21.83.
Tuskegee returns to action next Friday in Carrollton at the University of West Georgia Meet.
