[o.21.x] Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster 1:1 Replica

A 1:1 size replica of the Space Shuttle SRBs. Much more detailed than the one you might find in the Space shuttle mod or the American Pack. No nose cone included, I ran out of patience.

To be honest it really isn't very practical as a booster, just too big and heavy, I recommend it as a simple first stage instead.

Comes with a variable thrust plugin that makes it have a similar thrust curve as the real thing. I didn't write it don't ask me how it works I only have permission to use it.

You are welcome to modify the CFG to make it smaller to make it more practical or even include it in the Shuttle mod or whatever. I'm just making it 1:1 for the giggles.

Lift off Mass = 590 t

Lift off Thrust = 12000 kN

Max Thrust = 14000 kN

Burn Time = 130 sec

Diameter = 3.71 m

Length =37.5m

Mod edit:

ExsurgenEngineering is part of the B9 Aeropace pack and has its own terms and conditions.

EngineThrustController.dll is not to be distributed and was not done by me nor do I have the source codes. If you don't want it you can delete it and have a constant thrust on your SRB.

Everything else is done by me and you have my permission to do whatever you want with them.

That's the ET from CSS, nothing new. The booster looks lovely, BTW. It'd be nice if it had a nosecone with sep motors and a parachute, as well as the 4 sep motors in the skirt. Decouplers are rarely enough for such massive SRBs.

Use KerbCom avionics mod for thrust equalization, so that you can fly asymmetric rockets like this Shuttle. It has a bit of problems with SRBs, but it usually works =)

Strange, I built this shuttle without it and can fly it as you seen in the video. Granted, the thing I did was upping the shuttle engines vectoring to 10 from the default 1. Now with the 0.22 SAS, it is perfectly stable even without MJ.

The thrust curve may help this a bit.

During the ascend, the CoM is shifting from the external tank towards the shuttle gradually, if all engine/booster's thrusts are static and don't change their directions, the shuttle will tend to pitch up. And now the booster thrusts will go down due to the curve setting, thus relief the pitch moment the SSME is required to compensate.

Yes, the SRBs variable thrust makes the transition smoother (and it makes them burn for longer also, helping the initial push). But the key here is the vectoring - these SRBs have 2 degrees of range while, for comparison, KW ones have 0.3.

Even then, it is still flyable with the KW boosters. The SAS in 0.22 is really much better. But these are so pretty... I think I'll share two craft files, one with each.

EDIT - Oh, just realized that, if I share the resized boosters, I'll have to include the plugin. Are you okay with that? Of course I will give proper credits =)

No problem for that.

This booster's curve actually is set according to the RL one. it has a section to reduce thrust during Max Q, though it may not be suitable for all rockets/shuttles because the curve is a static one while rockets/shuttles' TWR may differ.
