Bishopstown, Ireland

The present Bishopstown club grew from Riverside Pitch and Putt club, which itself benefited from an influx of members from the defunct Dunlops club in the early 1990s.

Situated at Murphy's Farm, the Bishopstown course is adjacent to a Playground and family friendly nature walks. The Curraheen River (a tributary of the River Lee) rushes by at the course's boundary. Murphy's Farm was originally the grounds of a holiday home/retreat for the Bishop of Cork Dr Peter Brown, and was built in the 1720's. It became a farm in the 1850's. The name "Bishopstown" is much older though, dating back to "Ballinaspick" (literally "Town of the Bishops", translated from Irish) in 1582! 

Nowadays, Bishopstown is a hugely popular Pitch and Putt course and club membership numbers are among the largest in Ireland.

Bishopstown's most diffcult hole is the Index 1 13th at 48 metres. Shortest hole at Bishopstown is the  Index 18 2nd. Measuring 31 metres, this test calls for an accurate teeshot over a grass bank to a green that slopes to the left.

Longest hole on the course is the 1st, which is Rated as Index 2. The teeshot must carry 62 metres across a shallow valley. Trees and Out of Bounds guard the left side of the fairway. Another difficult hole is the semi-blind 49 metres 5th.

Bishopstown features small greens and the design makes excellent use of the elevation changes. The 3rd plays 45 metres uphill while the downhill 17th extends to 47 metres.

No. 14 plays 53 metres downhill over another grassy mound while the teeshot to the 48 metre uphill 15th must beware a fall away to the right of the green. The 18 plays 57 metres into a bowl-like green with a bunker front right.

Bishopstown is home club to Ireland's 2018 European Team Championship winner Bryan Delaney.
