Hugo and his team were excellent in introducing us to Surfing, and making the experience fun and with a sense of freedom! The surf lessons were great, and the Hostel itself was exceptional, with a really great “chilled out” vibe where all the guests were sociable. The location is great, and close enough to Porto to disappear for an afternoon for wine tasting and food. Can’t recommend it enough!

I had a wonderful time at the maverick. The camp is beautiful, my room was nice with an amazing view and the house gets cleaned daily. The Maverick is located a little more in the country side but if you don’t have your own car (like me) there are some very friendly volunteers who offer shuttle services. And the area is simply beautiful and relaxing. You can easily find people to connect with or spend time by yourself. I enjoyed my surf and yoga lessons a lot. I can highly recommend the maverick, I would stay again anytime!

First of all, Marco is one of the most positive persons and hosts i’ve ever met as well as great teacher in surfing and surf skate and all the exercises for balance and so on. Secondly, the location and the villa itself is awesome. I just went on my vacation for surfing and didn’t even expect to receive such a high quality living experience. Moreover, once my vacation finished, i decided to stay longer and it was easy to work remotely since there is a co-working zone on the first floor of the villa. Villa is super cozy, comfortable and clean! I believe this place attracts wonderful people – we had awesome vibe and evenings with wine, guitars, going out on Friday together and so on. The hostel staff was really amazing, taking care of everything, arranging for lessons, transport, super helpful and just nice and kind, assisting with all the questions. This hostel seems to attract nice people because the atmosphere was just great. Instructors knew what they were doing making sure that no matter the weather conditions we still had fun and learned something new. Overall incredible experience: all the surf instructors have been really helpful, dedicated and patient in teaching every one of us according to our surf levels. The surf house and school was amazing! The people were so friendly and open, and the instructors couldn’t be better! Lisbon surf house & school have an instructor for everyone. If you like to be pushed to your limits and learn as fast as possible, Bruno is your guy. Diogo is super supportive and great at seeing students as individuals and giving them individual advice. We learned a lot in just two full surf days, but regret not booking for longer as we really loved it there.

The teachers are passionate, caring and make everything much easier to apprehend. The food is delicious and the hotel’s vibe is chilled. It was my very first yoga and surf retreat. Francisco was such an amazing host during our stay at Jho’La Surf Camp. He made us feel very welcomed and was extremely helpful throughout our 8 day stay. One of our favorite experiences were the home cooked portuguese dinners from Francisco. The dinners provided the perfect opportunity to get to know the other guests better PLUS the food was absolutely incredible. The surf part was fun and very challenging. We were able to stay motivated through the instructors (especially Jamie!). In the evening our sore bodies were then properly stretched out during our yoga lessons instructed by Diana. Diana did a wonderful job to get us feeling relaxed and centered after what felt like a long day of surfing. All in all, we loved everything about Jho’La Surf Camp and we definitely plan on coming again!
