Goodmayes Park
Located in the London Borough of Redbridge, Goodmayes Park was opened in 1905. Access is from Green Lane to the north, Mayesbrook Road to the south and Colinton Road or Aberdour Road to the east. There is a lake at the northern end of the Park, which narrows in the middle where it is crossed by a pedestrian bridge. The larger, southern part of the lake includes an island where birds can breed. In common with all the local park lakes, the lake is man-made. There is a bowling green restricted to use by a local club. The well-maintained tennis courts are public and free. The Council has installed an outdoor gymnasium (also public and free). There are several football pitches.
Birdlife: resident flocks of Canada and Greylag geese on the lake sometimes wander onto the football pitches and crop the grass. Coots, moorhens, a few mallard and tufted ducks and sometimes mute swans. Migratory black-headed gulls in winter. Occasional pied wagtails which seem partial to the bowling green.
